So do I. My first thought was its a shame to darken the nice wood you have discovered after stripping off the layers of paint. Very nice contrast between is white and the stained wood colour

Fabulous job. I know how hard it is. I renovated a similar staircase when we bought our first house. I spent months on it! I worked on it every day while my 2-year old had her rest, and then from the time she went to bed; until my husband came home from work about 2.00 a.m. I know exactly how long it took, because as I started I realised I was pregnant, and finished just before I went into labour. (60 spindles to strip, sand etc....) Staircases are SO hard and labour intensive. NEVER again!!! Your staircase definitely has a more professional finish than mine! Excellent. A staircase is like a beautiful piece of furniture, and the most important part of the house.

Tip for others, if doing paint or finishes on stairs do every other (so odds or evens) so you can still get upstairs then once the first batch are dry and can be used, do the ones you missed, then you're not stuck upstairs/downstairs while they dry

Hi Laura and Ollie! What an amazing result after so much hard work on your stairs. They look stunning and I felt really desperate for you when you undertook that long and painstaking paint peeling and sanding process,as well as the replacement of the sash window.Any faint hearted soul would have given up and brought in professionals to do the job but you battled through it and not only saved yourselves a lot of money but have been able to feel really proud of your achievement! I have learnt to have a packet of baby wipes next to me when painting - any drips or sploshes can quickly be cleaned up before they become part of the surface. :)

I think of all of the projects and renovations you've done, the staircase is actually the one I'm most impressed by. All that work and time put into every single step, all that strenuous repetition, tenacious little nooks and details... You can be so glad to have filmed this as no one would ever have seen just how much work it was to redo these stairs. Congratulations on finishing them - you can be so incredibly proud of yourself!

I just love your videos. Great idea about painting the stair balusters it makes it so much easier. The workmanship that went into homes before is just amazing. Ok maybe there are some parts that aren't up to todays codes but the wood, the doors, I'm in such a happy place seeing you bringing out the beauty of the wood.
