In order to gain more room, a Nissen hut could use the space under the hut for a half cellar or maybe lift the whole house a little bit. Also, why not adding roof lights or transparent polycarbonate wave sheets on the top as well as ventilation? Yes, the construction would be heavily modernised, but the overall appearance would remain. The result might be better than demolishing those super interesting houses forever.

We are converting a nisson hut in North Devon that was from the second world war war.

I've always loved them. They are different. Would like to see one designed in more a 50's way rather than being so modern
