Lorries of Malta and Gozo 1994 Part 2

Part two of the video resumes where we left off with the Atkinson Borderer artic water tanker passing Valletta's bus station. In this part we can see an immaculate AEC Mk V Mammoth Major 8 owned by 'Edible Oils', It's appearance is in marked contrast to the beaten about MM6s to be enjoyed thrashing and mauling their way out of a stone quarry. There's also a longish scene which shows a well over-weight 'Tilt Cabbed' Mandator in a bottom gear assault on the climb from Mgarr harbour... I seem to recall the load being bagged sand.
The video finishes with a fresh out of the box Scammell Routeman fuel tanker. Hope you enjoy.

I wish that my dad was still alive to see this , Years ago we ran a family haulage business and he always had a soft spot for AEC apart from the mandators it was nice to see the old mammoth majors , mercuries and marshals again. They brought back a load of memories from long ago .thank you.

I thought the white artic was pulling over 30 tonnes. Malta must have relaxed weight limits. Great video.

Very cool video. I still see the truck at 8:40 belonging to Mahmah - I think it's an AEC 760 with an Ergo cab. I'm also the proud owner of a 1966 Leyland 680 ergo which I use for heavy duty work once in a while. I plan to keep her in full working order for at least another forty years if I can help it! :)

Absolutely brilliant video, talk about a trip down memory lane, loved all those old tipper lorries, even the old AEC I think it was with no door on, seemed to be working itself into the ground, poor thing. Amazing film quality, even sounds. definite thumbs up from me,,, 5*****

There are truck drivers living on Malta that ARE long distance drivers. They do the ferry to Scicily then go right up to UK, and back.

One question!!! Why do all the old vehicles seem to end up in MALTA? I recall my old Dad saying the very same thing about the old cars, as to how all the old 1934 Ford 8s (model Y) ended up there too, years after they were ancient history at home, in the UK. Does anyone know the answer?

In Malta we use our vehicles till they last. And because British trucks are made to last they will always be used. Unfortunatly EU emission laws are starting to be implimented, but for now it is fine.
