Sardinian Narrow Gauge Railways 2013

Sardinian snippets recorded in August 2013 on the narrow gauge lines in the north of the island. There are various scenes of Fiat and Breda built Diesel Mechanical railcars on the lines radiating from the island's second city of Sassari, some too on the long cross island line to Palau which runs but once a week in the summer season. The other line included is that from Bosa Marina to Macomer where a Fiat Diesel Electric railcar can be seen along with a loco hauled tourist special.

Grafitti covered cars remind me of New York subway in the 1970s-80s. At 1:50 there is an overhead wire for a trolley line or rail electrification. Is that still being used?

It reminds my childhood vacations in Palau, where daily seeing the little train made the railfan i still am. Too bad "my" line works summerly only (but at least was not turned in a bicycle path...), too bad trains are treated like garbage. But still they are, waitin maybe for better times.

Good video and I'm hoping to go on one of these train's in September. Is their a gauge train that goes from Cagliari and finishes at Sorgono. On Google Earth I can see a railway track going from Cagliari to Sorgono, does it go all the way there, or do I have change train somewhere?

A couple of notes: I assume metre gauge? Interesting that there are no horn or bells used at grade crossings!

It's either 900mm or meter gauge. It seems too wide for 760mm

Sad that this beautiful island has the same plague as the Italian mainland, graffiti. All trains are taged under, and most companies do not much about prevention and removal, they rather are more happy with having shabby looking trains than the costs of keeping them clean.

Couldn't agree more, it's utterly disgusting. Spain and Italy are covered with graffiti too, and don't do a thing about it, or the ignorant vandals who produce it. This is NOT "art". Personally, I refuse to get onto any train covered in this.
