There’s a big misconception about what you can do with acrylics which is usually based around the drying time. But in reality you can create some wonderful effects and employ traditional oil painting techniques

Some people use special mediums with acrylics to make the paint glossier or dry slower but that can be more work than painting in this way.

I understand what you mean about having to highlight over and over again. It’s partly that acrylics dry darker and with white it really shows darker than we want it to. Your painting style is beautiful and professional.❤

Omg! This is amazing! I am getting back into art. I have stopped for about 16 years and I have never painted before. I tried using water colour paints but it’s not for me when painting faces. I think acrylic paints are my preferred option but I will find a way to incorporate watercolours into my acrylic work or keep them for fashion illustrations. I don’t think that I will be this good right away but this gives me hope!

I wish artists give other solutions to pay for courses or videos than Patreon. Like having the full course to buy and pay just once and download. This is something I'd do with purchasing this kind of course as I love painting with acrylics. It's quicker and I can learn faster about implementing the values much faster.

Hi Renso, it was nice having your video play while I worked on commissioned pet portraits, which I've been procrastinating on up to this point. I personally enjoy using Phthalo Blue to darken and cool down my colors, very little is needed and the life of the painting is not compromised. I've used black too though and as you've shown in your beautiful work, it's certainly not the color killer people claim it to be, it simply needs to be used with reservation. Great video, thank you for posting!

After my sons came of age, to go to school, I got back into painting again. I could afford acrylics and so I just decided to try and paint as I did oils. I actually liked them a lot, and I could blend and shade without feeling hurried for time before they dried. I enjoy seeing how you paint with them and the excellent results in the blending! Thank you, You are a very innately talented artist! I am benefitting learning how to begin sketching out the subject’s face & placement in perspective for a portrait painting.

This is eye opening to me. I appreciate seeing the layers you did, the colour mixing and I found it interesting as well for the eyes you did not need to sketch in pencil first. The proportions was a helpful lesson as well. It does seem hard with the paintbrushes to dothe fine details of the eyes and facial festures. That is what led me to compare videos of painting with coloured pencils. I like the blending outcome better with paint. I need more experience. Overall eye opening lesson and video. Thank you.
