This may be the single most helpful video I've ever found on KZbin-- not kidding at all. The instructions are clear, concise, and straight to the point, neither no more or no less than what I needed to know. The video and audio quality are excellent-- I'm hard of hearing, but I understood every word Shane was saying without having to rewind and repeat even once. My only regret is that I didn't look for it before trying the job the first time around-- I messed up exactly the way Shane describes, and it would have made life so much easier if I could have seen his instructions to help me put the fob back together again. Bottom line: watching this 5 minute video can save you an hour's worth of frustration.

Around a year ago, I had to replace battery so watched KZbin. Everything fell apart and I am 67 so it was really hard to put everything together, and I was never sure if I did it right. Had to replace again today and could not remember what I did so thank you for saving me precious time and energy in putting it all back when it fell apart again. Why do the manufacturers of these things make it so hard for us to do a simple thing like replace a battery. I wish they would just go back to the old days of just a key - much cheaper to replace and nothing to put together or hurt arthritic hands. We can't all afford to have dealers replace - why they think we bought such a small car?

He should say THREE THINGS! 1st put clear packing tape over the buttons before you open. 2. Hold the solid side UP when cracking open the case. Keep the buttons Facing DOWN! Without mentioning which way to hold the unit when you twist the key to open it, it's easy for the little baby keys to pop loose and you are left in a real mess. 3. Use a small flat head screwdriver to pop the battery out to replace. Makes it much easier.

I am sure the only person that would give this a thumb down is another Honda dealer. I have changed many key fobs for both my Acura and Honda's. This time it fell off my table as I was changing the battery and everything came off. Thanks so much for the Help. funny thing is I live in NYC and use a leasing broker, turns out before I went to Acura I leased many Hondas over the years and at least 3 came from your dealership. thanks for the past and present.

Thanks for this great video! And for anyone who is struggling to REMOVE the old battery held in place by the four prongs--and you don't want to break the prongs off, you push the battery back toward the middle of the fob. It's spring loaded. It took me way too long to figure that one out!

The battery life of my Honda is terrible. With only 16,000 miles, the battery went out. Then after the pandemic. I drove my crv with the new battery , the key fobs ( both of them ) did not work. We were not able to lock the car in the middle of our Christmas shopping. So before everything failed. We drove home . My husband replaced the battery. But ended up with a bag of fragments like in this video. I salute you for making this video to help me resemble the fob …..and it works.

Thanks for posting this. A caution: I found the press fit that holds the fob case together to be extremely tight. Couldn't get enough leverage with just the removable key to snap it open, so had to hold one lip of the case with a pair of pliers and use a flat blade screwdriver instead. Sure enough, when the case finally popped open everything fell apart as you described. Your reassembly instructions were invaluable. Honda does many things well, but the design of this fob isn't one of them. The fob for my 2007 CR-V is held together with a single phillips screw. Assuming you have a small enough screwdriver, it's much easier to change the battery on that one.

Thank you for a much needed video… It's hard to believe there's just about anything available on KZbin, but this proves it! One mention though...the little black brace is irregularly shaped, and only fits in one direction...if it rides above the mount, just spin it 180 degrees, and it will drop nicely into place....and as you mention, the curved part goes down.

I have a slightly different fob. One with the lock on top, unlock on the bottom and hold (keyless start) on the left bottom and trunk on the right bottom. This video saved me about $30 becauae the buttons disassembed while I tried to get to the battery, which that alone is about $10-20 at the dealership (which I suckered into with a previous car key once).... or $500 for a new key from Honda. I didn't know how to replace the battery without having to replace everything, so thank you for that. I just put my key back together today and ended up with an extra piece--the little crossbar that goes on top of the push buttons to stabilize them. OMG you are a life saver took my key apart it came totally apart could not find my spear had t put this one back together for an appointment. Mine key wasn’t the same but i was still able to follow your instructions!! Thanks a bunch

THANK YOU! I have changed a lot of fob batteries - but my CRV with remote start fob basically fell apart when I separated the battery. this video was VERY helpful.

This was perfect. After 20 months my CRV remote died. Quick trip to the hardware store and was working again. I used a screwdriver to pry apart the remote and carefully used a small one to get the battery out. Thanks for the very useful post.

This also works for a 2016 Acura MDX which shares the same stunningly bad key fob design. You would think Honda/Acura would include a diagram somewhere to show what you just did, but this is the only resource I've been able to find (and nothing out there for Acura). All the other battery videos assume the whole assembly doesn't fall apart (which it does, easily). Wish I could give it a bunch more likes - thanks!
