Learn your history... rent increases doesnt cause homelessness. The failure comes from salaries not increases to follow the market rate. And... The number of people experiencing homelessness in the United States has fluctuated throughout history, with spikes in the colonial period, pre-industrial era, post-Civil War years, and the Great Depression. The 1980s saw a substantial increase in homelessness in the United States, which brought the issue into the public eye. What caused it??? Not rent increases, The late 1970s recession led to high unemployment and inflation, which contributed to the rise in homelessness AND The Deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill which began in the 1950s and continued through the 1990s. And Bill Clinton and George Bush passing deregulation of federally backed mortgages that led to the 2007 financial crisis that caused millions to lose their homes.

Programs that help families buy into a home that's what's needed. Not more rental property, soon there will be nothing but tenants having to pay whatever they charge. It's time to set a cap on rents. How much more can you ask for a broken down 1 to 2 bedroom Apt. with no heater, your responsible for all utilities including water, sewer and trash. What about people on fixed income. Landlords are always talking about increase in expenses. While, no one talks about increase in wages. The wealthy forget how they got there wealth. I would welcome a 4 % increase. Oregon is 10% increase a year.

Its a bad situation, but even worse in the sense that the root cause of high rents is being ignored.

They shouldn't be raising up anything if people aren't going to be making even close to the amount their rent cost. Give workers a better pay instead of being greedy and taking money from people that can barely afford it.

When Christmas came they figure y'all had money to spend. All these people in the malls just spending money okay guess what your rent is going up.

When does rent not go up in CA?

Keep voting blue buddy and that trend will keep going until you live on the streets.

@@Salz88Lots of assumptions in this comment. Who said I was renting, who said I even lived in CA and who said I voted blue?

When will the people get it, theyre fighting and pressing for the wrong issues. Its pointless to fight for minimum wages to go up because theyre just going to bring the prices of daily living right up with them, instead we should be fighting to halt this inflation prices and even to bring them back down a lil bit because pretty soon we wont even be able to say were living from check to check anymore because the check is not going to cut it anymore.

What fair reporting. Only get one side of the story and not the owners side, such as increase in insurance premiums (if you can even find it), increase in repair bills, garbage and maintenance costs, and has this reporter even looked at the cost of actually replacing a roof, plumbing or anything else???

Mine rose 4 percent last year and then I was like oh yeah I bet it’ll go up again in January and I was like time to buy a house and I got the F out of there cause when the rent gets that high, those increases are significant and before you know it you’re paying the same you would in a mortgage.

formerly a west hollywood tenant. these landlords never want to fix anything unless you’re with a good prop manager, we moved out and landlord took 90% of the deposit for things that were normal wear for a 5+ year tenant 🙄

Taxes, insurance, maintenance are all going up.

Not in incorporated cities. Santa Monica and West Hollywood's maximum is 3%. I have only a couple times had an apartment manager be on top of their building maintenance and I have only rented. Fyi: rent increases do not go out only in Feb. If that reporter either rented or researched, she would know that most rent increases are 1x a year..and only after the lease is up or on a month to month 12 months are up. Please research and doubkecheck before you "report."

Funny-lived in my apartment in Dallas back in 2003-2008 - before fees - rent only went up once in that time. Just pure corporate greed now.

Why is rent going up so much 😢😢
@Mlogan114 күн бұрын
Increases are even worse in red states where there isn't rent control or yearly rent raising caps. As long as private equity is allowed to flood the housing market, rents will keep moving in a one way direction.

When I moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles, I had no plan. I was tired of the south, having been born, raised and lived. My whole intention was to join countless of homeless people in DTLA. I’ve been living in my car going on 4 years this summer in 2025, and I have saved substantial liquidity from my job working in Beverly Hills juxtaposed my small businesses. Finding affordable land is what keeping me from building a 500 sf tiny home as owner/builder👀🙏🏿💰🏠.

Why should he? there's not a god dam thing you can do about it because you don't have the balls to stand up for yourself and move out. All you can do is complain and and keep paying your rent. Just keep your mouth shut please.

Hey homeowners..... don't be bitching when you see people living in Rvs or in their cars! Alot of folks are a few dollars away from losing their home!
