Landlords always act like they want you to return it back to normal after you move out but the truth is when you do nice DIY things to their units they will keep it and increase the rent prices because of it. At the end of the day you are helping them!

Wrong! At the end of the day you just cost them a ton of materials and labor. Landlords who own multiple properties often mainstream inexpensive materials that aren't likely to be discontinued too soon. This makes repairs and renovations quicker and easier as they will always have the materials on hand. Putting on peel and stick linoleum over tile and contact paper on cabinetry ultimately ruins them since they will be removed when you move out.

That’s partially true. While there are landlords that do the bare minimum, a number of landlords want to keep the decor as neutral as possible so they can rent out and maintain the place easier. That’s why a lot of the corporate managed units still have those 1990s beige walls and tan carpets.

Always keep the original items that came with the rental separate, so you can enjoy the more nicer stuff that you have bought yourself while you were living in that rental and then, when it’s time to move to another home: bring out that bag filled with this rental’s OG and swap them with YOUR items. The landlord gets back what he invested himself and you are not auditioning to be his personal WALLET, so you keep your things to yourself and enjoy them in your NEW rental home….. That’s how this game keeps being played again and again…. AND REMEMBER:::::::>>>> TAKE PICTURES OF HOW THE PLACE LOOKS BOTH ON THE FIRST DAY AS WELL AS ON YOUR LAST DAY.

Beautiful room. I have a love hate for peel & stick tiles. They're pretty & easy to put down, but on the other hand, by far one of the worst to get off. Maybe they come off easier on linoleum, but we had to get them off real wood hardwood floors. It was a labor of hate for sure and when we got them all up, the residue was still stuck to the floor & could only be sanded off. A total pain lol.

While this may work well for short term rentals, I would not want to ever remove 5 year old contact paper or stick on tiles again. NOT worth the hassle. Really not, and if you leave any residue your landlord can (and will) charge you against your security deposit for cleanup. Most of you might be better off asking your landlord if you can repaint the cabinets to a white or black. Much less time consuming than fussing with contact paper anyway. That said, it really did look nice in the end, Emonie, and I like the extra curtain a lot! Adds glam. And you should ask your landlord if they will pay the cost of the new faucet if you install - that way you have permission to mess with plumbing (which is a huge no no in most rental contracts I've seen,) and you don't end up paying for the faucet upgrade. Free is always better. ;)

And everything that she did was very easy to return back. If anything the landlord should be happy that she upgraded what they had the nerve to rent to her. Btw... Those landlords wouldn't happen to be you and Emoni, would it? Just asking becuz you made that statement about you and Emoni as if you two knew this talented tenant. And as if you were a little mad about some of the upgrades she did to the property. If this is not the case then u are seriously mad about that 5yo tile and contact paper you had to remove. Lol.
