Thanks very much for this clear and informative video; I was able to replace all 20 of the worn universal tines on my 26-inch tiller with new ones in just a few hours -including dismounting and mounting the tiller on my 732.

Why does BCS go to the expense of making a heavy duty rental tine and a lighter original equipment tine? Also why does BCS go to the expense of having two mounting systems? If the time does come to replace tines is it better to stay with original equipment tines?

Rental tines are an optional version, sometimes purchased after the original tines have worn down. Rental tines are wider, thicker, and more resistant to wear. They are a good choice for establishing new beds and lawn renovation. Because of their thinner, more knife-like design, the universal tines are more effective than rental tines when power composting cover crops and garden residues. Most Rental Equipment dealers that have BCS tillers in their fleet prefer to install Rental Tines as they are better for lawn renovation, which is what most tillers are rented for. Thanks for asking!

Dave, my 732 with a 26-inch tiller has universal tines and is now 4 1/2 years old, I use it for milling shredded leaves into into cultivated (garden) soil to compost during Winter. The tines have also performed extremely well for breaking new ground (lawn areas) when I'm cutting in new perennial or shrub beds. Here in northern Maryland we have heavy red clay soil that's lightly salted with boulders, the tines perform extremely well. I've just finished replacing the worn (original) universal tines with new ones -after 4 1/2 years of service. Hope this helps.

Can we increase the length of each tine by 1 inch . I mean from base to the curved portion of a tine. Because i need 1 inch more deeper ploughing than what is at present. Please reply if we can replace all 20 new tines or not .

No, we definitely do not recommend installing tines that are not designed for BCS tillers.

Hi there, my 66cm tiller has only one set of holes for the original tines.It doesn't have another set for the rental tines. Also, my tiller mounting "disks" for the tines are square instead of round like in this video. Can I still mount rental times because I till sod?

It sounds like you may have a previous generation BCS tiller (built before 1994). If that is the case, you would need to replace the spacers and knife holders in order to intstall Rental Tines.

@@BCSAmerica It's the new grey bcs tiller. Just got it last year and the hubs are all square where you attach the tines. However, I need to break up clay soil and sod (After the tractor has done the ploughing) . Would rental tines be recommended for such purposes?

@@peter.s-yt Did you purchase this tiller in the US or Canada? The current model Tillers sold through BCS America do not have square-to-square tine holders. Rental tines work great for breaking up sod for lawn renovation. But standard tines will do the job also. Rental tines are wider, thicker, and more resistant to wear.
