This is timely. Every time I look up homes for sale in an area I’d like to move to (based in Canada), I noticed I really don’t like what I see and the thought of buying makes me anxious. I know I wouldn’t feel comfortable living in such space and I’d feel limited. But recently I started to look at rentals and I feel like it’s a more convenient, affordable and would allow me to move towards building a home sustainably. Being house poor is not a flex at all, you’re right. I also despise the narrative of “you can’t get everything you want in your house” uh like hell I can’t! If I’m paying thousands of dollars in a mortgage I’d rather wait until I’m ready to build than to settle for another home. Especially when I can rent for significantly less money. We are all in different spaces in life and I just want everyone to understand it’s OK to do what’s best for you and not be pressured into going one way or another. 🥰
