Thank you for the wonderful comment. Hopefully I can reach the towering heights of the greats one day. Yamaguchi, Yokoyama, Reibo, Taniguchi, Seifu and others.

I hope to be good enough to perform one day. First time I made a sound on the shakuhachi was like finally discovering my own voice. And the first real breath I've ever taken.

I play flutes too. But the shakuhachi is very hard to play. And here in Austria it's also very expensive to buy a good one. Such a cool intro. You're great, Bro. I would love to hear you live!

Via google translate: Kurt, it would be an honor to play for you one day. I am moving to Japan so I will be just a hop and a skip away. Maybe there is a future version of me visiting down under!

Hi! I'm Janikus on Twitter. Thanks for the follow! I knew you from Linfamy's collaborations, and I have now rediscovered your channel. Some weeks ago, I put some shakuhachi music for my mother to listen to and I told her the story of it that I had learned in your collaboration video. I hope the best for you :D

I like that it's less known. That makes for less competition. And I dread things that are competitive. There's always a guitar player, violin player, piano, bass guitar, etc. that's better then you. But with shakuhachi, like with a synthesizer, you can make kind of more your 'own' sound. I like that. It's more about breath, sound and non-sound/emptiness; then it's about becoming the best or becoming famous.
@TairyuShakuhachi4 жыл бұрын
In Japan, there is more of that competitive aspect present. I don't think that it is a bad thing at all, it helps us all get better. With that being said, I was a part of the violin/viola world for most of my life so far and its cutthroat and toxic in many ways. Those who try to make shakuhachi that way, are missing the point. This is the exact reason why I don't take part in Shakuhachi competitions. Its an Oxymoron.
@kjell1594 жыл бұрын
@@TairyuShakuhachi I can't really imagine a shakuhachi competition to be honest. I've heard about shamisen competitions though, so shakuhachi doesn't seem to far off. But as honkyoku in particular are predominantly about breath and Mindfulness. There isn't really that much you can grade on. You can grade on technique, creativity/originality and detail however. But not on mindfulness, etc.

We can grade on pitch, phrasing, musicality, approach, sound, flow and more.
@kjell1594 жыл бұрын
@@TairyuShakuhachi Yes, that's what I kind of meant with more technical and creative aspects. Although it's probably not as black and white as I made it sound like.
