Just saw them a week ago in Austin and they still rock. Any true REO fan misses Gary but he's been gone from the band over 20 years now. And you gotta admit Dave really puts everything he has into his playing. Watch him when they do "Back on the road again". That may be Bruce's song but Dave steals the show with his guitar. For 5 guys in their 60's, they can still get the job done, and they still all look great for their age. Can't wait for their next show in my area, I'll definitely be there. I've seen them over 50 times since 1982, and it seems to me they just get better everytime.

Like everyone else said, No Offense to Kevin or REO but Damn, I miss Gary! Back in the early '70's , I'd came in with REO playing on the 8-track in my car (yeah, I'm an Old Guy) and my Youngest Brother asked "Who the Crap is THAT?!?" . He thought they sucked until Hi-Infidelity came out. Then, he thought he'd "discovered" the Greatest New Band to come out. I reminded him that I'd been listening to REO way back and that he'd thought they were crap, LOL! Several Years later, he told me that he'd told his Friends "I don't know how he does it (meaning me) but my brother comes in listening to Groups that no one in our Rural Area had ever heard of but years later they were Huge!". I told him I used to listen to KLOL Rock and Roll Radio out of Houston (they played the New Stuff) plus I would go to record shops and they'd also be playing all of the New Stuff. It's probably been 45 years since I was in a Record Shop and for all I know, they may not even exist these Days, LOL!

I've seen REO live a few times and being a guitar player since I was 12 and now i'm 43, Dave still kills me with his chops. All those saying REO isn't the same since Gary.. Come on... Dave has been with REO for decades now and He is just a killer, under-rated guitarist...
@joelpanettaonline Жыл бұрын
I saw Gary 3 times and Dave once. Dave is vert good and gets a bum rap, but he has just been playing Gary's leads. And Gary's Les Paul straight to the Marshall just sounded better. Obviously I have a slanted opinion because I think that Gary was one of the best during the early REO days. Kevin and Gary were great together but they never had a real hit after Gary left. His guitar made Kevin's song come to life.

Being from Northern Illinois, I remember REO as a local garage band. The only original member left is Neal, the keyboard player. But that is ok. The original front man was a guy named Terry Luttrell. (spelling?) He was on the first album and did it well. But he never would have carried the band to commercial success like Kevin Cronin did. Kevin is a great song writer and front man, and I give him credit for carrying REO to the commercial success that they had.Now addressing the current line up. As much as I loved Gary Richrath on guitar, David Amato has done well replacing him, not only doing all of Gary's licks, but is actually a better technical player than Gary is. Gary has actually gone way down hill in his later years. Brian Hit is a great drummer. He is agressive, but tasteful when being so. Neal hasn't lost a step on keyboards. The current line up of REO is great. By the way, I played guitar for a living for more than 30 years. So I speak from experience when talking about both Gary and David.

Kevin Doran who did you play for.also I appreciate your expertise when come paring Gary to David. for me it ain't REO without Gary. he was an exceptional writer and I believe a very underrated guitar player. how many hits have they had since he was kicked out.....I believe zero.
@kevindoran92717 жыл бұрын
Robert, I should have been kinder and more clear when I was talking about Gary. When I said down hill I meant his health, not his ability as a guitarist. (RIP) He was a hell of a player and a hell of a showman on stage as well. But man did he have a temper! LOL! As for no hits since he left, I read an interview with the original bassist for REO (I think his name is Regis?) He was under the impression that REO does't want any new hits that they are happy just performing the old stuff. (He now lives in Florida as a property investor) Many bands from the past feel this way. KC (of The Sunshine Band) says he never wants a record deal again, he is having too much fun touring and not being under the thumb of a record company.As for who I played with, I would rather communicate that with you in private if that is possible. Thanks for the response.

Saw Gary Richrath and his band at a motercycle rally in Iowa in the 90s, and yes he gained a little weight through the years ( dont we all ) but he still set that LES PAUL on fire, great show. this bike rally is still goin on every 4th of july . great bands 3 days ALGONA, IOWA. This is a reincarnation of REO that I really like. They are fk'n STRIPPED and TIGHT here! I also think this is before Cronin started to get really old, as he is in many of the later vids I have watched. The drummer really sets the platform I think. He is probably the only REO drummer w/o the double bass drums and a ton of toms. You can have the "power ballads," but really, the classic, old school tunes sound awesome!!!

gaston0770 I miss gary too i would always see him in a bar or in the gas station or just around somewhere and i would talk to him sometimes when i was little and back before i knew who he was i didn’t even know until fall of 2015 and i didn’t start listening to their music until 2 years ago but i can remember my dad turning up the 1977 album up real loud in the truck or when ever one of their songs came on the radio for example roll with the changes came on and i remember on september 15 2015 coming home and my dad got on the computer and he watched some of their live videos and i remember it was the hi infidelity show in denver on like back one the road again when kevin and gary were waving and i said they look like a bunch of girls up there because i didn’t know anything about them or anything from the 70-90s because i was 10 and then i got a playstation and i was playing grand theft auto and the rock station was on and i thought this is way better than everything else and since then ive been listening to old music and i really hate the new music and its turned all the kids my age now into cunts because thats all they do and now they see all these people rapping about stuff that no one cares about but yet they love it and i have no friends because i was raised with common sense and dont do and repeat everything i hear or see on the internet because i just find it purely stupid and i wish that there was more kids like me but theres only one i know of and i never see him more than once every few months and life is boring and the only thing i have to do for fun is play guitar and if it weren’t for gary and reo speedwagon i would never play and id probably be dead by now from depression and boredom but the point is fuck all the new shit kids don’t understand any of it and they talk like all the rap music they listen to and even at the catholic school they cuss and talk about sex and drugs and they kept setting me up to get in trouble because they know they won’t get in trouble and one time i even found a bullet in my back pack that someone put in there and im lucky that no one put drugs in there or else then is be in jail for something that someone else did because the mayor was bringing in the drugs but if this were 1973 none of this would have happened because times were good nothing like any of this ever happened because back then this thing called discipline happened and to this day in this town it only exists in my family and thats sad that we let the world get so bad that even little kids now are doing drugs but when we let kids listen to rap music we should have expected that this would happen

As we age. so do the musicians and bands that we grew up with. Very few bands that were considered "classic rock" just a decade ago are still playing. Most retire and fade off into obscurity. Granted, REO is only a shell of them former selves, but so am I. As long as REO/STYX/FOREIGNER/KISS/JOURNEY, etc etc etc still tour, I will support them.

If you want just the loan REO Speedwagon part of the show, I believe it’s called extended versions. I ended up buying the CD thinking that maybe it was some kind of demo compilation or some thing, and was really disappointed. I've seen several live concerts of different bands in St. Louis here on yt, and I gotta say, the crowds have never been that impressive. If I were in a band, I would seriously consider NOT recording a concert there. The crowd was pretty unenthusiastic throughout this concert, which is a shame because REO put on a hell of a show.
