I manage several farms and have five of these cameras. I've found them to be very reliable and easy to use. They've survived two northern Illinois winters without issue. 1. Go to a T-mobile store and have the SIM card activated on the spot with the camera. One of the main complaints with these cameras is the initial cellular set up. 2. The solar panel only needs a few hours a day to charge so it doesn't need to have the perfect angle to catch light. The battery is quite large and can go without charging for a month. 3. The camera doesn't have the same response time and range as a dedicated hunting camera. It can be used for hunting but it is really a security camera. This doesn't bother me since I don't use it for hunting. Before buying REOlink I investigated using cellular hunting cameras and found them to cost twice as much with features I didn't need. 4. The camera and solar panel are surprisingly inconspicuous. I thought they'd be obvious but aren't. 5. Get the cloud subscription package and skip the SD card. The video gets sent straight to the cloud and it is easy to review and download.

I bought one and plan to buy another so that the two cameras can watch each other in my pole barn. I am hopeful that by placing them to watch each other it will make it impossible for a thief to come from behind to steal one without being seen. And I do like the speaker feature because it works like an intercom. When a family member can't find something, I can tell them where to look using the camera which saves me a 3 mile trip to the barn. Thanks for your video. Great review Jase! I work for our state's Dept of Natural Resources as a biologist and we are looking for a cellular camera to monitor certain nesting birds on the marsh. My question is how much detail can you see in the lower res video that is sent to your phone? Is there anyway you can download the high res video file via cell (even if it uses more of your data)? Thanks for any information you can provide.
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth! The low res version looks pretty good on your phone but to really get details is to have the high res version which can only be obtained by pulling the micro SD card. I too wish there was a high res download option because those files really aren't huge anyway. There are trail cams hitting the market now that do the same as this one and might have a high res download option, but they are twice the price. I think the focus will be ok as I remember hanging the cam and it recorded my face. Although I'm half afraid to say it'll be good that close cause I really haven't tested that but I think it will. Let me know if you try this and how it works. I feel like this wasn't much help, sorry!
@vandalstookthehandle3 жыл бұрын
@@JaseOutdoors No, that'a useful mate, thanks. And yes, I spotted you put the camera up to your face and it seemed to be fine. The live view option is very useful if it means you can dip in whenever to see what nesting birds are up to and the 60 second record time suggests there may be a video cut off time...but do you mean by, start a new clip, it just keeps recording at 60 seconds? That may be a problem as to data transfer. An option to set record time would be great on this set up. Maybe there is some control on record time using the selected set recording times. Obviously this is designed as a security camera and not a wildlife cam, but it seems an easy edition to limit vid clips to a timed cut off. I seem to remember the Spypoint Link Evo cam use to do this as default. In fact it went the other way, it limited the clip to 60 seconds. It would be great to be able to control the record time, specifically for a site of continual movement, like breeding birds. Will let you know if I find out anything more. Thanks for responding Jase.

I just went through my playback folder and most of my clips are only 10-20 seconds but it's mostly of deer feeding in a food plot. It seems once the deer stops walking and the camera doesn't detect motion it stops recording until it starts walking again. I don't have many clips over 30 seconds but there's no setting to limit for how long it records.

@@JaseOutdoors But if the deer stayed in shot, eating and moving for 20 mins, what would be recorded Jase? That's what I wonder. Btw, I'm 63...isn't it marvellous to communicate like this, within seconds... across the planet. Just saying.
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I have deer in frame for a long time and they are typically 20-30 seconds long. Sometimes up to a minute if there's lots of movement but rarely records that long. Yea, technology is amazing these days

Jase, on my reolink app icon on my phone there is a number, like 14, are these files recorded, and if so, how do you erase these?
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the number of detection alerts you received. Once you click on the app icon and open the files from that day, the number should disappear on the icon. If it doesn't disappear, then I'm really not sure how to make it go away

No, the camera cannot zoom but the PT version can pan and tilt. It would be cool if it could zoom though!

I have that same camera you can zoom with your thumb and index finger touching the screen and pinching out.

Yes, true but that's just zooming into the image and quality goes to crap real fast. I thought Jon was asking more for an optical zoom, but you're correct

I don't have this deer camera however I do have 5 reolink cameras and I use Verizon. Huge thanks for the awesome down to earth review of this camera. I'm now going to purchase one and it's to catch the poachers. Huge thanks. (REOLINK should pay you and give you free cameras to say the least. Good luck when hunting season is in.

During the big snow storm we got I thought it was detecting the snow but after looking much closer there were deer moving pretty far out that I could barely see cause it was snowing so hard. I was impressed how well it did not getting false video. There is a setting in the app that you can adjust the sensitivity so you can set it where you need it. Good luck!

Which cellular company do you use? Is this camera T-mobile only?
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
You can choose which ever provider you wish, but T Mobile and AT&T seem to be the way to go. I use a sim card from US Mobile and haven't had any problems with it so far

@@JaseOutdoors Question. I have clicked on your link to amazon for the US Mobile card. It says $5.99. Is that all you pay? Meaning how much data doe it get you? How many months does it work for? Will you have to eventually pay for another SIM card when or if the SIM Card expires? Sorry for all the questions. Maybe the card cost $5.99 and then you have to pay an additional cost each month. If so how do you pay for each month or where do you go to pay for each month? I guess I am trying to figure out where you can manage the account to see how much data your using or have left as well as pay for the account each month. Things like managing our payment method your using assuming you can set up auto pay so you doing have to manage paying it every month. Thanks
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
You have to buy the card itself first. That's the price you see. Then you can pick a plan from there. I buy the 500mb per month plan and that's $5 a month but with all the fees it comes to a little over $8 a month. You only need that one sim card and can keep adding to your plan with US Mobile. It really doesn't use much data so I'm even looking for a cheaper plan with less data. Hope that helps
@carlod5453 жыл бұрын
@@JaseOutdoors Ok so you pay $5.99 for the card, and once you get the card you pay another $5 plus the fees that comes out to like $8ish. Thanks for the info. Do you manage the card via an app from US Mobile? Or do you call and do everything over the phone? Also if you do everything via a phone call to manage the data plan, I would assume if you want to check your data usage it would also have to be done via a phone call? Sorry again for the questions. Just trying to get a grasp of how one manages the plan. Hope it allows for setting up auto pay to a credit card so you don't forget to call if you have to handle that over the phone, or even if you had to login to an APP to pay monthly. Autopay would be great. Also are you saying your looking for another brand prepaid SIM Card? If so that POP card that says free may be the way to go. Just not sure that there are any on amazon right now.
@JaseOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, u control the plan via the app. It's really easy. U can turn on auto pay or pay by the month. I was just looking for a cheaper plan but the one I'm using is pretty good so I may just stick with it. Freedompop apparently has free plans but not a lot of data. Good luck
