Using Home Assistant it’s an easy setup to have the Reolink Doorbell, or any Reolink camera, take a snapshot image when it sees vehicle/person/ pet/visitor and send that snapshot to your iPhone and Apple Watch. So you are not only notified someone is there but get an image of who it is. Other doorbells may do this as well but Reolink made it easy.

I really enjoyed your video and as an existing Reolink customer with their DVR I was all set to buy their WiFi video doorbell. Then, you showed its operating temperature range. I live in a northern plains state that regularly sees winter temps below 10F. I reached out to Reolink yesterday to ask about their plans to provide a different model with a lower operating range. They confirmed they have no such plans. Either their published temp range is pessimistic, or they have no desire to sell these products in northern North America zones.

Yeah I got the same answer too. My marketing contact said the engineering team confirmed the low end. I have no idea what component on the BOM would make it that crazy of a temp. Why you might not want to have local on-device recording is because the device is easy to snatch off your mounting plate, getting all the recordings around your house for days, learning everything about your routines without having to spend time watching.
@ThisSmartHouse Жыл бұрын
While in theory that might be concerning, but in reality most people will be backing up the recording with an NVR, cloud, or other camera. Plus it isn't picking up anything that someone can't see from the street already. But a good suggestion to the company might be local encryption on the SD card. I will pass that along.
@LeoTheHuman Жыл бұрын
I'm not saying it's an option that should not exist, I'm only saying there are some downsides to recording on the device outside, which should be mentioned for people who care about that kind of stuff. ( idk what’s it’s called) but if someone cuts that Ethernet cable from outside the house that stops the wi-fi. As for the power to the house in general couldn’t they just cut the wires to the outdoor power box? So in the end wouldn’t just a wireless doorbell be easier since a Poe could also be cut?

This is a trade off of all security cameras. Yes, any non-battery powered cameras can have the power cut. Wifi cameras can be "jammed" knocking then off your network. The most secure cameras would be direct wired, connected to am NVR with a battery backup. It is all a trade off depending on where to live. You can pair the ReoLinks with a NVR, so if someone cut the camera, you would still have a recording.

I would assume if you're using the Synology security station software you should be able to add these. I'm pretty sure it supports rtsp at the minimum.

As many of us lives in the areas where this could be a problem... For my case (EUROPE) it drops below -15 on some days.. And I'm wondering to go for it or...just pass.. It is great price/performance option but this temperature really bothers me.. :)

What if you cannot wire to existing bell or transformer? Can I just plug it into a wall socket and run the wire to the bell outside?

Yes the kit does include a extra long wire and a wall transformer. Just make sure that you have the wall transformer protected from the elements I don't think it's waterproof.

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzbin.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

@ThisSmartHouse10 ай бұрын
Hmm I haven't noticed but frankly I don't use the audio much. I just check the recordings. 5 GHz wifi or Ethernet should be better in theory. If you already have it hardwired, have you tested from different clients. Like use the windows client on your PC when hardwired in? See if there is a reduction in the delay.

It's not IP65, it's a "water-resistant design". It is a structure where rainwater enters from the gap between the wall and the doorbell, so that I am considering a waterproof method.
@ThisSmartHouse Жыл бұрын
The device is rated as IP65 (as per the documentation). What you are referring to is the installation, which you are correct, isn’t IP rated (because it depends on the material it is installed on. You will have to ensure that where your doorbell wire exits the house is either sealed or has the appropriate dip loop.
@markraciborski4289 Жыл бұрын
Most things aren't rated water proof these days, but use IP ratings. Probably a cover your arse move. TV weather reports went to percentage, like 90 percent chance of rain, because if it doesn't rain, well you were not wrong. IP65 is a fairly high rating, about at outside electrical connections.

You can have the app installed on many different phones to view/use the door bell. Can also set up users within the app so others only have limited access to certain cameras or settings in the app

@@jorgetrujillo3936I received a working RLN16-410, hardware version N6MB01. The NVR and the wireless doorbell are on the same network and "magically," the doorbell showed up as a camera on the NVR. Can you get power to where you want to mount it? You have three options for power: 1. The included power adapter (WiFi version), that connects to AC. 2. You can power it with a doorbell transformer. 3. Power via Ethernet (PoE model). As long as you can do one of the above you can use it.
