Thanks for covering this Daniel. I've been looking for a video doorbell for a while now and this one has been recommended for various reasons, not least because it integrates with Home Assistant very well. My main blocker currently is that I don't have a wired feed to the front door and am reluctant to go drilling holes and routing cables. Hopefully they release a battery powered version.

Just got the doorbell too, what transformer should I get? I don’t want the screwfix BG one…. Any recommendations please!

id just suggest getting poe i have wired poe and wireless cctv and changing all of them to wired poe the picture quality is far better and no drop out and i have this door bell but poe and was so easy and never fails love it

Hi, just watching your video for some tips on my own Reolink doorbell installation. Good spot with the LED driver module, but your other suggestion to fit a single socket outlet to plug the Reolink transformer into would be a big no no with a doorbell wired from a lighting circuit. The 1.5mm cable is not rated for 13A and anyone could come along and plug a vacuum or other appliance in and be in trouble. You'll no doubt say, ah but there's only me and I would know. That's not really the point. Putting a 13A socket outlet on a lighting circuit is not in cpmpliance with BS7671 and is quit dnagerous. So, your LED module is the safer option.

@daveforrester61 BS7671 does allow 13A sockets on lighting circuits - see regulation 559.5.1(v). Common applications of this allowance include providing power to aerial and distribution amplifiers in lofts, and floor lamps controlled by wall switches where the use of 2A/5A round pin plugs and sockets is not otherwise possible. Furthermore, 1.5mm2 cable is rated to carry 13A, even in the worst-case scenario of an insulated wall (just). However that is beside the point as the circuit wiring should be protected by a suitably rated (usually 6A) overcurrent device in the consumer unit. The biggest risk of someone plugging the proverbial vacuum cleaner in is actually a second order one e.g. loss of lighting leading to risk of falling/injury. A recognised acceptable mitigation to this is marking the socket appropriately regarding intended/acceptable use - you cannot (and are not expected to) mitigate against all acts of defiance/stupidity.

@@daveforrester61 No worries! In my haste to 'set that bloke on the Internet straight'(!) I should've added that whilst it might be compliant with the regs that doesn't of course make it the 'best' solution. Even aesthetically speaking, having a socket and plug-in power supply might be undesirable and so personally I too would be looking for more a discrete/fixed solution. And that's exactly what I might end up doing myself - what brought me here was the fact I'm expecting the arrival of such a doorbell today and so will be considering alternative power supply options if the existing bell transformer doesn't work (I suspect it will though).

@mathewnewton3499 I just went with a new transformer and enclosure. The remote chime works really well and we can hear it from anywhere on the house. We also have a mad Spaniel who let's us know if anyone is at the door too 😆

Watched your video and noticed that my chime has differnt wiring to the one you have. I have tried contacting reolink to no avail would it be possible to send you a picture of my chime wiring and maybe you could advise me on how to install through it?

The original output was 12v or 24v? mine is 12V, i connected it directly to my original Kylink Door bell that was 12v, i seem to be having issues.

Would anyone know what kind of transformer we could use without the buzzing issue? i have no idea how bad is the buzzing, but its not very good. i dont want to install this for 100 pounds and then have to replace it. i have thought of buying the Ringdoor bell transformer as i read that it had no issues working with reolink :(

What screws did you use to fit the blue extension nuts?

You don't need any they just grab onto the wires when you twist the blue ends.

Hello Daniel, I found this very useful as we have the same issue that our existing chime transformer isn't suitable - Towards the end of the video just after mentioning the possibility of putting in a socket for the 3 pin transformer that comes with the doorbell, you say "and just connect that up to the bell wires". Do you mean simply attach the forked connectors (on the 3 pin transformer cable) to the bell cables that would have gone into the transformer? We have a regular socket within reach of our chime box, so we could plug in the transformer that came with the doorbell and use the existing bell cables as an extension to that cable?
