Bookshelf tours and rearranging are oddly relaxing and compelling. It must be something endemic in bookish people. Like others, I'm very glad you kept your 3-volume Sherlock Holmes set pretty much where it was. Very nice video.

Love a good bookshelf snoop! I’m a bit confused though. In my ideal library, fiction would be shelved first by genre, then possibly sub-genre, then alphabetical by author (anthologies would go at the beginning because “A”, sorted by the name of the first editor.) Mass Market paperbacks would be separate, but in close proximity, as a slight concession to aesthetics. As it is, I have books all over the house and way too many in bankers boxes. I do have a very small shelving unit meant for DVD’s for those vintage severed unicorn head paperbacks from the 60’s and 70’s, which I have a special fondness for. So, my confusion is - what was your method for choosing and sorting the books on this shelf? Right now I’m looking at To Kill a Mockingbird sandwiched between what appears to be an anthology of ghost stories and a 2 vol bio of HP Lovecraft. Why? To me TKAM belongs with literary fiction/ American south. I could understand if they were fancy. If I had a collection of fancy books they would probably be shelved together regardless of genre. I only have one fancy book - Easton Press Ivanhoe. I found it at my mom’s house - I asked her where she got it, and she said she thought it was mine. Nope. I asked a friend who collected fancy books. Nope. Well, it’s mine now, and it sits in lonely splendor so it doesn’t make my ordinary books look even more ordinary. I just wish it was something more interesting. No disrespect to Scott, who is my first cousin many times removed, if I understand cousinship correctly. I’m looking forward to your someday video on William Hope Hodgson. I’ve only read The House on the Borderland and I couldn’t make heads or tails of it. I hope all his books aren’t like that.

I have to admit your bookshelves exacerbate my OCD in some ways. I, myself, would be putting all the books by, say, Lovecraft together. Because reasons. That's just me though. Drives my wife nuts. I was please to see you have the Illustrated Sherlock Holmes by Baring-Gould. Have that one myself, and love all the old Strand Magazine illustrations.

You're making me feel on the spectrum today my friend! The visual distraction of that Sherlock Holmes silhouette always sets me on edge, I use the William Hope Hodgson Nightshade set to anchor myself, and focus on your face. That is undone! I am undone! I don't know man, I live surrounded by books, and I thought your messiest shelf was probably your cleanest shelf. I thought the thing that made your shelves look disorganized was not that you had little figures, but that you had too many little figures. The Barnes & Noble faux leather editions look nice individually, but they make for a horrifying shelf - especially in the background of a video. **Sigh** I'll have to work on it. You do you.

I feel like a failure. I have had my new shelving for weeks now and still not as organized as yours. Still have piles of books to put back in storage and still trying to find others. I'm also dealing with a dilemma of trying to decide on digest sized manga to buy. Currently have Archie Digests for at least uniformity but those are already designated to go since donate them to my great nieces and nephew in hopes I can get them into comics. I didn't manage to get their mom, dad, or aunt/uncle in to comics and hope to rectify it with this new generation. Thanks for some ideas for possible decorative additions. I need better theme stuff than my latest toy pick ups waiting to be stored. I have a buddha, praying hands, and a sphinx but could always use more.

I don't know why, but I enjoy organization and clean out videos. Even if I've never seen any of the influencer's videos, I will watch their cleaning videos. I think it is because maybe if someone cleans, I won't have to. Never mind that it is someone else's house.

Perhaps those Robert Howard collections weren't fancy enough for your backdrop - they're quite fancy by my standards - but I really feel he needs to be beside at least one of the other Lovecraft sets since they're BFFs, and Clark Aston Smith and probably all the pulps that inspired him, or that he inspired, or were just contemporaries. That's what I go for, except I have a fantasy/Sci Fi divide, so he's near Burroughs but far from Welles - they can see each other across the room though.

When we in Nov-Dec, I hope the house has recessed book shelves so I don't have to do anything. All my books are different sizes so a closed bookcase like yours wouldn't work unless I laid them flat. I have paperbacks, hardback and graphic novels.

I have a small collection of book marks (paper, brass, plastic, imitation ivory, etc.) which I keep on my very messy book case. I noticed no discernable book marks on your excellent book case. Do you use book marks when you read, and could you do a video on your favorite book marks? Plus I think a messy book case proves usage and has character. Thank you.

Thank you for removing the photo and figurines from the frame! I found them irritatingly distractive. Nice spines, so why hide them? The figurines deserve a stage of their own. However, are we going to overlook the light reflecting from the Baring - Gold which, disrupting the light balance at center of shot, fails to contribute any information to the over all composition, but rather undermines both the sense of solidity of the Sherlock Holmes and the line of the shelf leading to the speaker? Perhaps following Holmes with darker volumes from the shelf below will solve the lighting issue while also enhancing the retreating line and thus better defining the features of our lead player.
