I literally gasped at how beat-to-hell your books are! Hahahah. Ma' also wrapped books to keep them in pristine condition... I am not like that (anymore). My books are in decent condition, but everything is covered in DUST! Ugh. 📚🙈💦 In your instance, I would say, "The books were well-loved by their reader." I live in earthquake country, so I also kiiiiinda freak out when I see bookshelves that are not fastened to the walls.
