I actually believe that narrative/the post that you just put up?? WOW! And how do you know this.... because the media says so, and so-called white people are telling you this via their news stations?? Stop being so emotional with symbolism, and start doing some research to find out about who the media puts in front of us and make them icons and heroes! You’ll be surprised and get a rude awakening of all of the civil rights leaders that they put up in front of us and turn them all into ICONz/funerals! But I know you won’t, and you would just simply say... “who the hell is this person responding to my post why don’t he or she just mind their DAMN BUSINESS!’ I know you don’t want to be challenged with your post, so I’ll tip my hat and wish you well carry-on.

Seems a lot of people here have never been taught or never learned basic respect for the dead and for those left mourning. I wish these people abundant experiences of simple kindness and true compassion from those around them.. consistent, conscious appreciation of these two blessings is the only way to understand and learn respect for human dignity and tolerance. I'm no American, but the US Civil Rights movement was an inspiring example for every one in the world and for that I thank Rep.Lewis for his contribution. Clearly just reading thru these comments, reflects the reality that the work is far from done America. RIP John Lewis.

@Jay Fairfield You need to stop that, and respect the man. Apparently you know nothing about him, so let me school you. John Lewis was America's biggest bridge enthusiast. Man loved that bridge, had a laser focus on it. Always crossing it, he probably knew every square inch of it. I never thought it was that nice a bridge myself, but I'm glad he liked it. I hope they name the bridge after him, because I don't think there is a single soul who spent more time walking on it. I'm a fan of the Golden Gate Bridge myself. Just saying, with our crumbling infrastructure, we need to respect those who love our nations bridges. Growing up, my daughter saw his love of the bridge, and became inspired to become a civil engineer. Then in college, he spoke there, and told everyone about the bridge. His eyes lit up everytime he would talk about it, talked about how crossing it was a symbol to get communities to build bridges. Man probably inspired more people to go into civil engineering than anyone. My daughter wrote him once, and he sent her a signed photo of him on the bridge. Telling you, man of the people, man of the bridge. Godspeed Mr. Lewis. For you I hope it isn't a stairway to heaven. I hope it's a bridge.

Do you really think God himself is going to allow him in the new kingdom call Jerusalem?? You’re out of your mind because the Bible I read, and the GOD that I know will disagree with you emphatically!!!! You need to read the real Bible instead of following Christianity that says everybody makes it to heaven!! He did not fight a good fight you’re out of your mind and you don’t know his his record and you need to re-educate yourself. I hate when you guys go off of pure emotions, and follow what the so-called white media puts in your face and turn civil rights leaders into heroes and icons. Study the Bible / the real Bible, and do your own due diligence, then study some real history of John Lewis. @@gogomimazoom8114 With all due respect, I base everything on what the whole Bible (Old Testament, the books that were wickedly taken out, and the New Testament) teaches his chosen children. I do not go off emotions like some folk love too do about a persons passing. Personally, I carefully do my own due diligence, and examine an individuals overall record. Then I make an assessment based off of it! Not who the media creates to be an icon or hero for so-called black people. NOTE: BY THE WAY, HE PUT IS OWN OVERALL RECORD IN OFFICE, AND HIS PERSONAL LIVE UP FOR EXAMINATION FOR OVER 30 YEARS! THIS FACTS! Look Gayle, everyone had an opportunity too judge his record while in office as a congress representative NOT just me. As for my nation/people, We get too choose who we celebrate, and who we want to honor once some passes on. So at the end of the day, I'm very sensitive, and saddened when one of our own face death! But, if one doesn't deserve the high praises when he or she passes, we as a people reserve the right not too do so! That does not make people like me evil in anyway shape or form. All it do is show folk like yourself, that we're entitled to feel differently if we choose to. As for Bible/Gods word, I'm very knowledgeable on it, and I do not think you want to go there. As historic as this event may be, as well the bridge itself and all the bridge stands for, it's a sad state of affairs. I just couldn't get past looking at this rusty ass, skanky looking bridge. Has this bridge been painted in the last 40 years? And the church where they kicked this thing off had the crumbling cement stairs that both combined elements just flat out gave the whole event a grimy ghetto type feel. Just pitiful. And to hear the commentary about renaming the bridge? The way it sits at this point is that you might as well rename it " The beat down bridge"...

I have to admit, in all the news coverage of this significant place that I have seen, I never knew that; The Edmund Pettus Bridge was so wide; that the span was was so high, and that the waters beneath were so abundant. Then I realized, those were the very reasons that this bridge best personifies the honorable Representative John Lewis.
