@Jay Fairfield You need to stop that, and respect the man. Apparently you know nothing about him, so let me school you. John Lewis was America's biggest bridge enthusiast. Man loved that bridge, had a laser focus on it. Always crossing it, he probably knew every square inch of it. I never thought it was that nice a bridge myself, but I'm glad he liked it. I hope they name the bridge after him, because I don't think there is a single soul who spent more time walking on it. I'm a fan of the Golden Gate Bridge myself. Just saying, with our crumbling infrastructure, we need to respect those who love our nations bridges. Growing up, my daughter saw his love of the bridge, and became inspired to become a civil engineer. Then in college, he spoke there, and told everyone about the bridge. His eyes lit up everytime he would talk about it, talked about how crossing it was a symbol to get communities to build bridges. Man probably inspired more people to go into civil engineering than anyone. My daughter wrote him once, and he sent her a signed photo of him on the bridge. Telling you, man of the people, man of the bridge. Godspeed Mr. Lewis. For you I hope it isn't a stairway to heaven. I hope it's a bridge.

But, if one doesn't deserve the high praises when he or she passes, we as a people reserve the right not too do so! That does not make people like me evil in anyway shape or form. As historic as this event may be, as well the bridge itself and all the bridge stands for, it's a sad state of affairs. I just couldn't get past looking at this rusty ass, skanky looking bridge. Has this bridge been painted in the last 40 years? And the church where they kicked this thing off had the crumbling cement stairs that both combined elements just flat out gave the whole event a grimy ghetto type feel. Just pitiful. And to hear the commentary about renaming the bridge? The way it sits at this point is that you might as well rename it " The beat down bridge"...

RIP. Rep John Lewis. I have to admit, in all the news coverage of this significant place that I have seen, I never knew that; The Edmund Pettus Bridge was so wide; that the span was was so high, and that the waters beneath were so abundant. Then I realized, those were the very reasons that this bridge best personifies the honorable Representative John Lewis.

That bridge was named after the Grand Dragon of the KKK, believe it or not.
