I'm French male Nurse who went back to college to get a law degree. I was raised by a single mom with my little sister (who's an IP lawyer now). We grew up in a very LGBT friendly environment, both of our godfather are gay men from 2 different gay couples. I was taught it was completely normal since as long as I can remember so around 3 or 4 and at that age my mother used to say that whoever I fall in love with in the future she'll support me. I ended up being a straight guy engaged to a black woman and my mother always supported it too. I'm a quite a normal guy except that I smoke and drink a little bit to much but I guess I'm just French. Right wingers need to stop their bullshit about sex Ed and teaching kids about the LGBT movement. It doesn't confuse kids it just make them more open to other people and more secure about their own sexuality. Anyway, I discovered representative Porter on the TYT network in November and I want to thank you, you remind me both of my mother and my best law teachers and I watch all of your interventions. It's sometimes just funny because you always seems to be the smartest, sharpest and more prepared person in the room. And I would rather catch the flu than being interviewed by you. “have no place in the United States”
@a_diamond3 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. no answer on whether he *shares* them though XD She didn't ask whether they were constitutional, or have a place in the U.S. At least some of the folks you represented held these views. "Do you share their views?" A simple yes or no will do..
@benjamingardner33143 жыл бұрын
He's actually right to answer this way. Your personal views are not up for debate, it is only what you believe is or isn't Constitutional that matters. I realize that seems awful, but people are allowed to believe whatever they want. What they cannot do is let it interfere with policy making. Unfortunately, most people blur these lines, and create an absolute 'must' list of beliefs everyone has to share, or else they are the enemy and nothing else. Was he a squirmy little worm who probably hates gays? Probably. Did he still share the view that such hatred is unconstitutional, expressed in policy making? Yes. That means she needs to cite specific examples of his behavior with that group to prove his beliefs influence his policy setting. SPLC is a controversial source to cite for hate group activity in recent years, and recently they've cited even more main stream groups as hate groups which are frankly, inappropriate over-reach on their part. I love this woman's break downs, but this wasn't one of her more concise and indisputable lashings. www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/06/28/morris-dees-splc-trump-southern-poverty-law-center-215312

I think Katie Porter will do whatever she sets her mind to. Compare her to vapid Senator Loeffler or ' Senior' advisor to Trump, fake Ivanka. Here is the difference an elected congresswoman who is highly qualified and works for the people. Versus Loeffler who was appointed and uses inside financial information to add to her multi millions. Then there's Ivanka who is qualified for nothing and is her Daddy's arm candy.

@@z_l_275 dude gay people march cause they have been systematically oppressed for generations. Even today, its like 60% less likely to receive a home loan as a gay couple as opposed to a straight one. They march to say they still have pride despite this. Since literally no one has a problem with people being straight like you and I and we make up 5/6 of the people in this world, having a parade to celebrate being in the norm has homophobic undertones. Also that is not an organised group like your original comment implies. Its just basic maths, there aren't enough gay people to possibly contend with the amount of homophobia in today's world individually. That's why they band together and why straight people don't need to. If you are going to respond, I hope you have valid points, I've struggled with my own position on this which is why I hope I can get through to you respectfully :)
@mymouthisbleeding4 жыл бұрын
@@z_l_275 You're missing the point entirely. The case here is not a case of double standards. The whole reason people celebrate gay pride is because, unlike heterosexual couples, they have faced oppression for many, many years. The whole point of pride parade is to celebrate the fact that despite all the oppression and discrimination, they stood proud and wore their identities with pride and didn't hide them. It's not just about sexuality. On the flipside, straight people have not been oppressed at any point in history for their identities or sexualities. So, they have nothing to celebrate. The fact that they think they do is just blatant entitlement. If you think it's not, let me ask you this : have you heard of any straight couples being oppressed during the course of history for their sexuality and identity choice? Because I sure as hell haven't.

4:00 He never says he doesn't hold those views. He just says he views them as clearly unconstitutional. Maybe nitpicking since that's acknowledging the problem with those views but it's one of those questions where you'll want to say 'hell no I don't hold those views' as the first words out of your mouth.
@Kelly_Ben4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not nitpicking. If given a job of power, he would view all policies and decisions through his own personal lens, and hire/ promote people who share the same views. The result would be new policies that reflect bigotry and hate.

@@cranshawmccaw Condemn is a strong word for what I said. Everyone has personal opinions and world views, but we trust them to keep those opinions out of their jobs, where they have no place. But like I said in my last comment, the bigger problem is him hiring and promoting yet more people who hold those ultra conservative opinions, thereby changing the legal system in America over time.

@@cranshawmccaw if he is supposed to form discrimination laws, technically no matter his decision he is upholding the laws so I don't get this point. He is clearly biased against LGBTQ, why is he even considered for a position that should also defend them?
@cranshawmccaw4 жыл бұрын
@@lukaurushadze3606 because a person's beliefs are their own, and they can exist independently of their job. You may not understand that, but some people can actually separate the two. Policy is made by entire groups of people. Wanting an entire group to be of one mind when passing laws is a tyrannical government. It doesn't matter what side of the issue you align yourself with privately.
