Dolls are usually shaped as slim as it allows clothes to be slid on and off, and therefore all clothes will fit all dolls. A larger model would have to have its own clothesline, meaning a costly manufacturing process and limited options, I do agree though.

What I use for "flesh" in poseable objects is furniture foam! I learned that when I took a class on stop motion puppeting; it's really easy to get and you can shape it really well-- glue it on in layers with rubber cement, cut it down, then wrap it in an incredibly light fabric just to keep all the bits together. I've found it shapes better than fluff? I used to use like plush stuffing to give things shape but they always ended up too weak. How well does her tail keep its mass? I might have just been doing it wrong.....

I dislike furniture foam, as just over a year it will become yellow and brittle and much weaker. It’s great for a temporary thing, but if you aren’t will to replace it every so often, your entire project could be ruined!

The way she makes the tool to put the hair in the dolls head is she takes a sewing needle and inserts it into the drill chuck pointy side down with the eye of the needle sticking up and then she cuts the eye at an angle with wire cutters. (Not sure if thats what you meant but if it is i hope this explanation sorta helps. There should be other tutorials on how others make this tool somewhere on KZbin)

You should definitely make a latex mermaid tail if you ever do a second mermaid! KZbinr AkameruKawaii just made a tutorial on how to make it out of silicone/latex. I love the translucency of the fins when they are molded in latex.
