Loving the build. Great to see it come along! Here's some painting advice if you don't mind. When it comes to exposed metal and body fillers you can't just use an etching primer alone. A filler primer has to be used on top of both surfaces, fully dried then sanded before the base coat is applied. It may look okay when you finish but it will show over time. An etching alone can loose adhesion and cause paint to come off and where the body filler is unsealed it will show as the paint cures. Take your time duder. Looks like your a bit squished for space, but you'll have way less contaminations if you do your prep work outside of your paint booth.
@ConductorRyan6 жыл бұрын
Well said. Constructive feedback, without being a douche. See guys, it's possible. (Also, I was watching and thinking, I wonder how that new primer he started using will go on that quarter panel. Oh well.)

For future reference, for comparing paint colors you need either sunlight or a high CRI light source. Most incandescent lights are 100 CRI. Those Cool White LED shop lights are likely 70 CRI so they don't show the full color spectrum of the paint.

masking suggestions: the excess material should be cut off or fully taped down, small pockets can have dust trapped inside which can be dislodged during the refinishing process. plastic should be stretched out as neatly and tightly as possible, no flags flapping with painting, so many possibilities for dust or tape to let go with plastic flapping away.

after seeing that door trip piece against the roof panel, its easy to see the difference in color. and yeah, the car color did have a little bit of a green tinge to it. looks much better, cant wait to see it in sunlight
@yuckysamson6 жыл бұрын
The issue with identifying paint colour discrepancy has to do both with the amount of light provided by sun vs. indoor, but moreso with the colour temperature provided by your flourescents/LED's. Certain differences will "hide" based on a large number of factors including magenta/green and blue/orange shifts in the light and other frequency spectrum issues. If it's possible to install a greater number of ultra-high CRI (i.e. extremely accurate) fixtures in your studio, which could also be done at multiple colours (i.e. Fixtures that will show you both 5400 K and perhaps 3000 K, bi-modal) you would have full confidence that your eyes aren't being lied to . Happy to make an introduction to a few providers of said lighting fixtures if interested. Thanks for your vids.

@spacepxl6 жыл бұрын
Longer shutter speed should get rid of flicker. The flicker happens because cheap led lights don't smooth out the ac current fully, so they usually flicker at 60hz. If you can set the shutter speed longer than 1/60th of a second that should get rid of almost all of it, although you might be left with some slow crawl because of the mismatch between ac frequency and camera frame rate.

@timmaahhhh6 жыл бұрын
@Dok Lk7 I dunno, pulling the 4 10mm bolts from the headlamps when the bumper was off, and taking off the fender moldings/ mirrors and door handles, is very minimal work considering how far the car is torn down, and makes for an vastly better finished product, with less chance to have issues, and look like a "painted in garage, or at the cheapest painter in town", and will bring more money at negotiation time for anyone looking at the car in person

Good job dude. Looks good. I'm gonna keep saying this until I know you've seen it though. Be very careful with paints that have isocyanates (2K paints). They are extremely toxic and those negative pressure filters only work for a few hours and if you smell the paint, you've already been over exposed to them. Have a look into a positive pressure respirator that hooks up to your air compressor. Stay safe.
