Good tutorial. I've dealt with truck airlines for years. They use a crimp sleeve on the inside. For some reason they develop leaks near the brass fitting periodically so I carry spare sleeve. The new drivers, and mechanics replace the hose, but I like being a dinosaur. Thank you Kev.

I am far from a Master Mechanic… a good friend of mine is a Master Mechanic, and has probably forgot more than I ever learned! .. but thank you so much 👍I do try to work on my own stuff! It’s the way my dad was! … it takes me twice as long and I usually spend a lot of money but as you know from doing all your own planting -gardening etc, there’s a sense of accomplishment with every task we do! Plus, I continuously learn… and whenever I learn, I like to try to share! To me that’s what it’s all about! Thanks again! 👍😎👍

I needed to make some custom sized air hoses. I wanted to have a hose that i could disconnect from the air reel and also use it for my bike lift. I considered buying a crimper and banding? I then ran across these Dixon reusable brass air hose fittings! They have been working great so far. I figured I would pass this along…👍 Thanks Kev … Also these fitting are rated for low pressure repairs

Great job. This is very good information, big guy. To build stuff to work properly for the job is great. it sucks when you only need 3 feet of hose, and all you have is 20 feet. Keeps the garage clean and organized, not that I would know I work in my backyard, lol, but it's organized with a bunch of rides,lol.

Thank you! RRG! It worked well for me. I mainly liked this “fix “because it was Reusable…you can’t really hurt them! ..if it ain’t what ya want … re-do it… sometimes only the ends of a hose wear out! Take care!

Years ago some of the air lines on Air brake trucks used those same kind of fittings. The outer portion had left hand threads on the inside you screwed that on the hose and then threaded the other inside the center of the hose and it became a wedge fit. Some hose even had steel braid in it.
@Kevscancave Жыл бұрын

HI Kev wanted to ask you your thoughts please I tried to use a 1/8 hose repair kit with barb type it seemed that the barb was loose before I was going to panic I tried as a remedy wrapping teflon tape around the barb before I put a clamp it seems it became secure and does not come apart after I put the teflon tape and got it clampped ?? Ideas please thank you !!!!
@Fredengle Жыл бұрын
I mean it does seem secure now that I wrapped the teflon tape around the internal barb and it seems to be secure now ! as previously stated ideas please thank you
@Kevscancave Жыл бұрын
I would recommend double checking the inside diameter of your hose in comparison with the outside diameter of your fitting. There should be some resistance when pushing the fitting in the hose.. the Teflon tape may work, but I don’t think I would trust it!
@Fredengle Жыл бұрын
dont know what to tell you the barb seemed to small and seemed to be fixed when wrapped it with teflon tape than clamped It I tried to pull it apart it seems that some times it came out but more recently it seemed unlikley that it was going to separate well if it seems to be working I guess its good ? I mean you know the expression if its not broken dont fix it since it seems to be working I would guess thats a good thing??? I mean it seems thing I clampped with the teflon tape on the barbs it seems to be working if it does come apart it seems it takes quite a lot of yanking or maybe it does not separate ! thank you
@Kevscancave Жыл бұрын
@@Fredengle Yeah, I understand it works and it might last forever? But I would check into something that doesn’t require the Teflon tape… that’s just my opinion!
@Fredengle Жыл бұрын
unfortunately I think it would be diffcult to find something in a different size I think what I want to do is try it the way I have it set up and hope for the best but maybe I should research if there is not another way to do it thank you
