Repair BMW 3 Series Washer Fluid Reservoir, Pump, and Sensor if Leaking or Inoperable

Learn 3 lessons from my experience repairing the washer fluid reservoir, washer fluid pump, and washer fluid sending unit (sensor) on a 2008 E90 BMW 328i. Watch further for step by step instructions.
Compatibility: Similar procedure should apply to all E90, E92, and E93 BMWs (2008 to 2013), and is likely very similar to most modern day BMW models.
Tools Needed: Floor jack, torque wrench with applicable socket for your wheels, body panel puller, punch, and 10mm & 8mm sockets.
Robb’s DIY Rating on 1 (easy) to 5 (hardest) Scale: I give it a 2. Anybody can do this with the appropriate tools and patience.

Thanks Rob. Appreciated the tips. I only replaced the windscreen washer motor and your video made it easy. I bleached and flushed the fluid reservoir to remove slime build up. I thought the washer jets were blocked, but they appear to have a valve that opens only when the washer pump is running.

I replaced by washer pump a few months ago and I still have a leak somewhere. I fill up with fluid and 2 days later the low fluid warning light comes ON. I also bought a new level sensor unit maybe it needs replacement too. I will have to open again and replace it. Its weird I don't see water leaks on my garage floor. Thanks .

Odd that the fluid would be low if you don’t see any leaks. Is your washer fluid cap secure? If not, it could be evaporating if you live in a dry climate. Otherwise, when the warning light comes on do you still have washer fluid pumping onto your windscreen? If so, it could just be a bad sensor.

@@robbsgarage You bring up a good point. My tank pipe has been broken at the top ant its open . Maybe evaporates like you say. I started looking for a replacement but I stopped. Yes, the warning light comes ON 2 days later even with fill up with fluid in the tank. I have the sensor already but will wait get a new pipe replacement to replace both since I have to open the inner liner. I forgot to mention, I replaced the washer pump a few months ago to avoid any leaks from the grooming area. Thanks!

any idea the part number for those three clips that clip the inner fender to the outer fender? All three of mine are missing from when the previous owner had the pump repaired. My OCD brain does not like to see an unfilled hole in the wheel well!. (the clips im talking about are the ones you had to use a punch to push through.)

Sorry, I’ve been searching and can’t seem to locate the part #. I know I bought them at a local dealer and they were inexpensive.

@@robbsgarage yeah, that makes two of us as far as searching goes! The closest BMW stealership is 45 miles away so I dont need them THAT bad.. lol ill try giving them a call and see what they say. Just need a part number and i can cross reference from there
