You know I used to cringe when you grabbed the wire and jerked the terminal off but then I got to thinking and I’m like if the wire breaks off, it needs to be replaced anyway. Great job!

Good man. That’s awesome. I had one today where another company told them they needed a new furnace. When I got there I realized that all they needed was new exhaust pipe. I didn’t charge them for the service call because it was originally a sales call and they said they planned on selling the house. I got the job to replace the flu piping. It’s always best to try to do the right thing.

That metal pieces that came with the motor are to reinforce it to keep the motor from coming loose changed 15 of them this summer some had broken blades

Good job Curtis, I never would’ve thought the compressor was causing the noise and vibration 👍
@donaldhoudek28894 сағат бұрын
Same like when I was working on my race car engines. The sound could be coming from a few different areas and difficult to isolate the actual point where it was coming from. I used a stethoscope that had a metal probe on the end. Really helped with isolating a lifter that was not gaped properly (solid lifters). Maybe having one could have isolated your issue easier and faster.

Nice work Curtis, those are a pain in the neck to service in spite of how easily they come out. A buddy used to be Chief Engineer at a nice Holiday Inn I serviced. He told me they proactively replaced their units like that every 5 years, in groups. That was less costly than having to pay a tech to come repair them, including the refunds they’d usually have to give the guests that experience no cooling in a room. You did the right thing when the fan replacement failed to resolve the noise. You probably have a customer for life as a result.

Ah, yes. Amana Ptac. I worked in a hotel for about 4 years and we had these in our rooms. Actually made by Goodman. Condenser fan motor, fairly easy to replace. The blower motor and heating element, not so much.
@chatrkat30 минут бұрын
Goodman! 😱 I did not know that. Seems like the later units work quite well. Well until they don’t. 😂

One tool that I found very valuable to me over the years when trying to isolate a noise is a mechanic's stethoscope. It may have helped determine the source of the noise.

I hope other tradesmen who watch this realize that it was your honesty that brought this customer back to you even though the initial repair was not successful. Would a M12 ratchet be a worthwhile investment, or do you rarely see such cramped right-angle screws as that unit had?

I was working on some heat pumps and they had the company sent out some techs to figure out what was wrong with the ptacs and they kept saying they were shot and needed replaced ( they were still under warranty ) and I noticed they didn’t check anything so i started asking them questions and realized they didn’t have a clue how they ran ( either did I yet ) so I got a bad one took it apart to see exactly how it worked out it back together tested some stuff and I do a lot of work on those now . For hotels .
@williamjones4483Сағат бұрын
These are fairly common in hotels. Hotel I worked at had these plus a few old G.E. units. These are actually made by Goodman.

Do you expect your mechanic to pull out the torch and weld up your exhaust system FREE of charge while you're getting an oil change? No, he does the job he is hired to do, which is your oil change and advise on what else might be needed.

I don't understand why, when you take on a new system you know nothing about. Go to KZbin and search for a how to video on what you are wanting to do. Instead bumbling around in making so many mistakes
@williamjones4483Сағат бұрын
You know dude, I learned electronics this way back in the day. Self taught, Yeah, you make mistakes but you tend to learn from them. Not a thing wrong with the way he's doing it.
