I've only worked on my own gasoline engines but Dave and the boys seem like they are upper echelon mechanics. I know nothing about diesel engines and I watch each of these videos completely enthralled. They explain things so well and this video was like mechanic ASMR during the build with music portion. I love this channel. Great work fellas

Dave's engines are much better built than any new engine from the OEMs. They don't do many of the assembly checks Dave's crew is doing. His rebuilding is more like a high end race shop. That's got to translate into more reliability.

You can tell that Joey also takes after his dad with his attention to detail. While talking, Dave touches Joey's freshly rebuilt engine with the tip of his finger, leaving a tiny grease spot. At 16:11, Joey then notices said grease spot and immediately grabs the nearest shop rag & wipes the engine clean, lol. Great stuff

Dave and Guys: these are great to watch. Melted piston is hideous, but far less cost than a gas turbine (jet engine) with a failed and melted high pressure compressor (literally mega bucks to repair). My old saying: "I love hard work, I could watch it all day long". However, I earned my retirement the old fashioned way, worked my butt off. Keep it up guys, enjoy your day!

I'm curious what compound he was putting on the friction surface between the head bolt nuts and where they meet the head surface? I was always told to not put any anti-seize or similar on friction surfaces because it can throw off an applied torque. Have I been misinformed? Thanks for all your videos by the way, love watching them. Nice place you have out there!

@davesautocentercenterville, you said EGTs more than 1350 were damaging. I assume that is a value for a diesel application? For gas motors, i believe the range required by the catalytic converter to function best is ~1300 to a tops of 1600. With that, above 1650 is quite damaging from what I have read. Any thoughts on this?

God I love a good solid build, not a rebuild guy to any degree honestly stay away from it lol but mad respect to the guys that do it. Rebuilt my share of motors over the years mostly small engine water craft engines and I hated every second of it😂😂 they ran and chugged a long till they got sold to some out of town guy. I don’t mind redoing heads, but anything engine related tare downs and rebuilds make me cringe in pain😂respect to you guys going above and beyond anyone who needs and wants engine work I tell them you’re the guys. If I ever need engine work done I’m sending my stuff out to you

I don't know much about diesel engines. However I am in the market for a new truck with a diesel engine due to the fact I pull heavy weight trailers on a daily basis. I would truly like to know your advice, what would you purchase ? 2024 f250, or 2024 gmc 2500. Powerstroke or duramax ? Those are the trucks I am considering.

5:50 I love how on todays melted duranax piston video, the piston damage wasn't done by the "leaking turbo seals" but what we know is the actual problem of the broken\damaged injector over spraying fuel into the hole and burning it up! Dave I don't doubt much of anything you say cause you know what you're doing well and have many decades of experience. But that previous video on this engine stated this melted piston damage was done by a turbo that had blown its seal and was sending oil into the engine causing this damage, which isn't the case. If that was the cause it would be all 8 pistons that got hot and damaged, not just one. The only thing that causes one cylinder to get too hot is too much fuel being dumped into it from bad injector like I said last video. I love to see you building the engine using @SOA dimpled pistons & I'm sure gapless @TotalSeal rings too. I wish we could see a side by side dyno, etc comparison between this and a regularly buit version? Anyways keep up the good work we'll be here waiting & warching!👌🏻👍🏻🛠️🔧🔩🛢️🦺 ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻

About we just put in steel pistons instead of aluminum? And use friction modifier and oil to prevent a lot of warn. Metal in the oil from the pistons, rings and other parts of the engine? If you wanna know of the 95% reduction infriction. Product I'm referring to just send me a message. I've been using it in both my vehicles and it's been proven. I'll resume on the scales. Clinically and scientifically! In fact, project farm has tested it and said it's the only one that actually does what it says it will do performance wise

Uber sketchy hoisting a heavy diesel engine with those oil soaked slings and getting under it to remove the oil pan. I know a few people who were in a hurry just git at er and ended up crushed under a load. Doing things safely doesn't take much more time and it's worth it when you don't have to sit in a court room and explain how an employee died on the job.
