Thank you so much for this video. For ages ive been trying to find out how a privacy handle works and couldnt find any decent video or ineternet page onit. This video was exactly what i was looking for.

Genius! I am no stranger to replace an internal door handle spring, but fell at the first hurdle of taking the darn thing apart. Then, the grub screw on the inside locking knob! Once I was shown that, job completed in minutes - thank you...

Different handles for me but the same initial problem with the grub screw on the locking mechanism - I kind of figured it was the lock that was stopping me getting the handle housing off (just to even to be able to have a look at what was going on) but your vid confirmed it wasn't going anywhere until I got that little screw out. Cheers.

aaaah... in german language i didn´t found the correct info... i didn´t saw that this knob-thing (minute 1:13) had a screw too lol and well... now i know and i was able to remove the whole lock... thx hahaha i pulled, pushed, halfway damaged it with brute force (ah new one will come anyway), and it was just another screw ^^

Very educative and great set of skills of if you have the tools and time as i have been having the same problem. However, you could have save yourself all these hassles for £9.99 for a like-to-like brand new handle.

Very true and thanks for commenting. I am indeed very fortunate to have the tools and skills to fix many things. Partly because I used to be a professional Handyman and partly because I am now a Bicycle mechanic working from home. However, as a 'time rich ' and 'cash poor' person, it was better in my circumstances to repair the lock, even before considering the amount of pleasure and satisfaction it gave me. In addition, I like to think that I have helped in a small way towards 'saving the planet' by not buying new. Hope you have found a solution for your problem. Have a great day.

The problem I have is that spring coil has become lose but I'm not able to get access to it just no way to remove the washer plates covering it.

Hi. Thanks for your question. That seems to be the problem and why I show how to make the cam washer. If you don't have the tools or skills then I'm afraid you will need to buy a whole new pair of handles. Good luck.

Still can't get the damn handle of the door to replace it ,I have undone the screw but the little turn lock won't budge .

@@cathjanewhittaker5512 if the grub screw is out then there is likely nothing else but friction or corrosion holding it. I suggest using a hammer on a scrap piece of wood to try to free it. I accept no responsibility for any damage!
