The Zoom L models are plastic all around, but I think that they are very powerful and have great features like multiple monitor outputs in the larger versions. I use the L-20 as my studio mixer and the L-12 as my mobile mixer. The pricing is very good, too!

Yes! I wouldn't want to go on tour with one, but if it's in a small studio or whatnot it's perfect!
