That is not really the case here. The motors are sold through an OEM channel program that obligates the equipment manufacturer to handle warranty issues. They were given the appropriate pricing when they bought x number of engines and it's in the contract

Some of the John Deere dealers are still "old school." Mine handed me the manuals when I bought my mower. He said, "You can read this stuff if you want to, but if you have trouble, you know where you got it." He meant every word and has lived up to it.

A great dealership WILL take care of their customers because they want their business in the future. If you’re buying a piece of equipment, shop the dealer… do all you can to figure out if they will stand with you for the long haul. That’s important. When you find a dealer like that, patron them!

I purchased a 2023 Scag Vride 2 from a private seller that came with a kawasaki engine, and I buy parts from a dealer that sells kawasaki parts he told me about the recall on the voltage regulator he order one while I waited he told me to disconnect the battery and when I got the new one he said to disconnect the old voltage regulator and bring it to him its really easy no need to bring the whole mower to the dealer but every dealer its different he didn't had to do this for me he told me about this problem long before they send the recall letters after this I appreciate him more.

That was nice of the dealer. I know that in automotive it has to be done by a dealer mechanic and the VIN of the car has to be communicated to the manufacturer so there is a central registration of which cars have had the recall done. They are not allowed to trust customers or 3rd party shops to perform the recall work. Not sure how it works for mowers but I can see that in certain countries liability laws make it a risk for dealers to just hand out parts to customers to do a safety recall.

Also as an FYI for people that have a Tractor Supply nearby; a lot of them have trailer rentals reasonably priced. My local Tractor Supply has half day utility trailer rental for $20. A new trailer that would fit my mower would be about $2,000, so that's a lot of mower hauls until breakeven. Of course, it would be a lot more convenient to have one to use anytime, but how often do you really have to haul a personal use mower in for repairs?
@paulprigge120917 сағат бұрын
If you have a tractor supply chances, are you have farmers around or related. Establish relationship with them. It will go along ways. Sam will even let you borrow stuff if they understand your character. That’s not everyone understand some will even help you out.

Definitely agree with you here. Any type of recall or warranty work should cover transportation or a mobile service tech, as most people aren't going to be able to transport a riding lawnmower themselves, and Deere does it for the big tractors all the time. Glad to see some dealers stepping up though.

I was told by the local JD dealer that this recall includes them picking up and dropping off my 740R zero turn mower. They have picked my machine up and I have not yet got it back yet but, they told me specifically that pickup and delivery IS covered in this recall!
@markwhite678222 сағат бұрын
You must have a good local John Deere dealer. Our local dealer would not do that.

@jimw161520 сағат бұрын
@@brucecole4907 Boy, do you have a hardheaded opinion on this subject, Bruce. Have you considered that your local John Deere dealer just said it was covered by the recall to simplify the explanation and is really absorbing the cost of doing so? Did you hear the call made to John Deere corporate HQ in this video where the JD representative specifically stated that JD does not cover pickup and delivery costs in its warrantee? The bottom line is that your local JD dealer is transporting your tractor at his cost, in any case.
@brucecole490718 сағат бұрын
Yes, I listened to the entire video and heard the call with JD. Hardheaded? Not really, but I don't make a lot of assumptions with a lack of knowledge or experience; maybe you should try that sometime. I have worked in the appliance and computer manufacturing industries for 39 years. During that time, I experienced many different arrangements negotiated between manufacturers and their dealerships - some were made public, many were not made public or were exclusive to specific dealerships. The JD person on the call was simply following the company communication policy that they were supposed to follow. Oh yeah, I also have the recall letter directly from JD, which states, and I quote, "John Deere has developed a Recall/Product Improvement Program (PIP) to address this issue, and the details have been released to your authorized John Deere dealer. All items necessary to complete this PIP are currently available and will be provided at no cost to you."

Bree found the unicorns in dealerships. My one and only recall was for a Poulan Pro mower with a defective fuel tank. The mower was less than 2 years old when the tank developed a leak. My authorized dealer was more than happy to sell me a new tank. Less than 6 months later, the new tank started leaking. I checked the CPSC website and found the recall was more than a year old, yet my dealer sold me a tank that should have been sent back to Poulan for the new design. The dealer refused to allow me to replace the tank under the recall. Mower sat for 6 weeks awaiting repair. That was the last of the power equipment I ever purchased from them.

Charged ya for a bad part. That should've been replaced for free with an updated version. I could understand if they sold it to ya. Then the recall came about after. They seen an opportunity to make $ on defective equpiment and jumped at it. Ppl these days..

I bought my Gravelly zero turn in south Florida and it has the Kawasaki engine. I had never thought about it till you mentioned it about when I bought it how they delivered it for free but onetime I needed it to go to their shop that they charged me 125 dollars. The second time I called for them to come and get it, the pickup guy fixed it in my driveway and didn't charge anything. Now I live in Missouri but I bought a trailer in Florida to bring the mower with me and so I have had to haul it to a dealer here. Only problem I ever had with this Kawasaki was the keyway on the crankshaft where the PTO is. The dealer made something otherwise I would need a new crankshaft and his fix was only $2.50 compared to a lot more money. It may last a long time or crap out sooner.

in 1997 I bought a Yardman tractor. After two years, it stopped working (something to do with a pushrod I recall). I paid to have it transported and repaired. I wrote to Briggs. They sent me a check for the full amount. That mower lasted 27 years (AND I sold it for $20) while my boss went through 3 John Deere's. Briggs is all I will ever buy.

Amen to all the other comments, and thanks for this (Even though I don't own a Kawasaki anything). But I have to ask: house calls? I don't know where the regulator is, but is this something that a mobile repair guy could come around and do the work? High praise for the local shop though. I've contributed over ten thou to one's revenue over the past ten years It's been absolutely worth it too.

Well now this was an interesting video and I got the same recall letter. My recall was on a 2022 Hustler. X1 with the Kawasaki motor and it stated that my machine could just all of a sudden catch on fire. The recall letter said that I should disconnect my battery cables and get it into my authorized dealers as soon as possible. So when I called my authorized Hustler dealer he did not have any of the voltage regulators. The dealer told me that he was working on it and as soon as he could get the necessary part that I would be given a call. Fortunately I did and do have a trailer because otherwise my dealer would not pick it up without a charge charge.

i worked for an orange tractor dealer. they made deals with kohler kawasucme and briggs and scrappem that if they used thier product. their dealers warranteed then through big orange. then orange would settle up later. if there was a recall they would pay an hour travel time for a tech to go do it and in extenuating circumstances more. also if a recall was too far it would get transerred to the closest dealer. they were very serious about recalls.

Hey Bre, love your videos downunder in NZ. 2 questions. 1. Honda engine GP200 the lastest replacement (or addition) to the GX200. Brand new, a few hours running & fouls the plug (sooty). Read online it seems common, including air mixture screw & lots of suggestions but no one can say why. Dealers don't seem to know either. Some GX200s as well. Have you heard of this? Suggested remedies? 2. Stihl FS38 trimmer. Year old running fine then suddenly won't. Everything like brand new, including carb parts. Seems common even new out of the shop. Dealers replacing carbs, sometimes repeatedly. Tiny holes inside the carb barrel body that cannot be go to can be the only thing uncheckable. Replaced carb with a non OEM online from Australia made in China? works just fine. Have you heard of this problem ?
