@StuccoPlastering9 ай бұрын
I recommend you google “Plastering contractors” in your area. This may help you decide. This search may also bring up “Yelp.” Theirs is a paid subscription, so their reviews may be biased. This means that if you’re a paid subscriber, any negative reviews will be last or hidden, while if you’re not a member, negative reviews may be placed higher when inquiries are looked for. There’s nothing illegal with this method of advertising as it’s the way the world now operates. Or try Google, too, as they are not biased, and the reviews are at no charge. Hopefully, with the help of both review apps, you will find the best fit for your needs. If you’re still unsure, ask to view their completed jobs or repairs and, if possible, speak directly with their past clients. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano plastering.

Howdy Matt a better solution is to use Stuc-o-flex’s Renew paint with the color you want, and simply roll it out. That would last as long as the acrylic itself. To prep any wall for an acrylic, you first use the primer associated with the acrylic finish, then apply the finish coat. Did you do this the first time? If not this may be why the color change? @@StuccoPlasteringSo I have done drywall and painting for 25 years and have a customer that wants me to do some stucco patching. Two of the patches have plywood as they use to be windows. On that I put tar paper over the wood and wire mesh. On the outside edges where I’m tying into the stucco, do I need bonding primer, or can I mix it into the mud? On the other side I’m tying in to existing grade stucco. They had it dugout,added a retaining wall and poured a patio. It’s block and I can see the existing wire mesh,so I was told to tie in with a 2” overlap. In this video I didn’t see that you used wire mesh? I’m curious as to why, or am I missing something?
@StuccoPlastering4 ай бұрын
@@chadhouse1375 With wood you do need paper and wire, so the stucco can be applied, with brick, stones, bocks or concrete one can stucco directly over it, as long as it’s not painted and clean enough to eat off. How to clean? I use a gas powered pressure washer with at least 3,500 psi strength. If it’s painted you still need to pressure wash to clean or etch the paint than apply by brush or roller a concrete bonding agent such as Quikrete or Weld-Crete.

You've said a very smooth finish will eventually form cracks, does that hold true even if you use very high-strength cement (CTS Rapid Set) with Sika fortifier/bonding agent mixed in? You da man Kirk! 👍
@StuccoPlastering9 ай бұрын
Hello complicated long drawn out question. If you steal trowel stucco, that sort of seals it, however when it gets saturated with say days let alone months of rain, the dam or so called levy will break. The stucco will expand then drain the moister causing lots of cracks. Kind of like putting a bootle of beer in a freezer. On the flip side if you sponge or hard rubber float stucco this compacts it or brings out the aggregate, this action actually opens the Portland cement so it can breathe. Thus when it gets rained on it allows the water to seep out freely. This is easy for me to understand, now if I could understand algebra or other languages I’d be set.😉

as a painter you need to prime or back roll the texture to fill in the raw stucco to the amount of the existing. This is where expertise comes in. determining the amount of "filled" texture. you may need heavy primer or just self priming paint. Sometimes you need to roll 2 coats. sometimes 1 coat. This depends on the product you are matching with. Some paints fill more than others. Most Home depot products will not get the correct match.....None of the Sherwin Williams will either. Dunn Edwards has some products that will work good and also Vista paint if available where you are works great.

I've removed the boards and decorative brick looking foundation tiles. Half of the top siding is the old 70's pebble and glass chips and the bottom half was board, that has now been removed. My goal is to make all the siding fluent smooth stucco from top to bottom. On the garage side and front the wood goes right to the bottom so I have to paper and lath that section all the way to the bottom. I'll pressure wash the old pebbly stucco, that also has old paint on it, and get it really clean, then put on quikrete concrete bonding agent. I have a dilemma about how I set things up for the garage side, because it's all wood to the bottom, and I want to place real stones below the stucco siding part, to give a foundation finished look to match the rest of the foundation on the house. My question is: When putting on the bottom metal J channel that goes on the bottom for the stucco drip piece, do I need to put this drip strip on the very bottom also to create a bottom for the rock foundation or do I just put the stones on the prepped area (paper, lath, and a coat of base stucco) and just put the stones all the way to the bottom of the prepared area?
@StuccoPlastering5 ай бұрын
@@therenaissancewoman2080 Good question, you do not need a drip-screed when doing stone work. You can install one to protect the mud sill but stones don’t need the drip screed which also serves as a stop as the stones test on the ground. Your house your rules.
