I have an old Amana washer with a broken belt. I found out after replacing the belt that during the spin cycle the belt was static while the motor pulley was spinning rapidly causing a burning smell, eating away at the belt. There was inadequate tension from the idler pulley to turn the transmission (tub) pulley. Replacing the idler spring corrected the slack and fixed the issue. Please note with a worn out spring, the belt may be taut enough agitate, but will not be taut enough to spin.

Thanks for the vid. Helped me get that c clip off. I forgot to mark which hole it was in tho cause I got distracted midway through. Is this a standard setup for my model or am I screwed?
