You and necroware inspired me in trying to repair some quite corroded motherboards i have, thank you! I might be able to fix the easiest ones 🤞🏻

Ha ha yeah, if it's not in a corroded mess, then it's not worth repairing :D
@luca68195 ай бұрын
@@scrap_computing Yeah, that's almost the case, some may also had little water damage due to a roof leak, but the damage seem not very widespread. Yet, thank you again for posting you videos, and creating nice gadgets! 🔝🔝🔝

Soldier wick works a lot better when you aren't so hesitant to use fresh portions of wick. You need to use fresher portions thats why it keeps smearing soldier all over the place. It's like trying blot up a spill with a soaked paper towel. I love the ASUS P5A, an absolute trooper with a K6-2 500mhz and a Rage 128. I'm gonna hold onto mine forever.

i'd trash the wick except for weird cases, use electric solder pump. never runs out and works better.
@scrap_computing5 ай бұрын
It's a really junky solder wick the one I have. If I remove the soldered end then its threads start to come apart :D I need to get a good quality wick.

This amazing issue testing with the CPU removed, just bit me this week too on the Biostar M5ALA SS7 board! I guess we need to keep this in mind now too, it's the first board I've ever seen to behave this way, but good to know the P5A does too!
@scrap_computing5 ай бұрын
Yeah, not sure whether all dual voltage boards are like this.

My soltek board isn't. I should check my P5A-B here...

I think better to add glue to the baking powder rather than add powder to the glue

like that flux! try a medium size chisel tip for the small stuff can use the corner. has more thermal mass than the pencil tip
@scrap_computing5 ай бұрын
Yeah... I hate flux, it's just too messy :)

Nice. We all learned from your mistake ;-) I wonder how well that socket clip repair held up. I'm still looking for a good way to reconstruct them. I've got too many socket 370 boards with broken retention clips.
@scrap_computing5 ай бұрын
I can't really tell, because in my case half of the original clip is already there, and it's the one that takes all the load.

Happy ending 😉😂. Yes that Vogons thread is super useful. I was able to proper setup a discrete 1938s, using those PCI commands. i had to tweak something if I recall correctly. I like this card a lot, a good PCI alternative for DOS gaming

Great video as always but you mention about getting the SOLO 1 working in DOS but did you mean MS DOS 6.22 or WIndows DOS? These Vogon posts are very confusing. How does one get SOLO1 working in pure DOS 6.22?
@scrap_computing5 ай бұрын
Pure DOS 6.22. If I remember correctly you need: 1. Directory: C:\SOLO1 2. File: C:\ESSSOLO.INI 3. CONFIG.SYS: DEVICEHIGH=C:\SOLO1\ESSOLO.SYS 4. AUTOEXEC.BAT: LH C:\SOLO1\ESSOLO.COM SET BLASTER=A220 D1 I5 T4 C:\SOLO1\ESSVOL.EXE /v:10 /l:0 /w:10 /m:0 /c:10 /s:10 /a:10 /p:0
