I have an 06 that has no lights in just one column of the passenger side light. The other column in that light functions well. Would that be the controller? Are there 2 controllers per tail light, one for one column of lights and another for the other column?

I decided to restore my 05....my tail light has been repaired BUT it got moisture in it after the repair and now the whole thing only lights up when the alarm sets....even then it's weak. I suspect it's the pwr supply/control board thing. I don't mind attempting to do it myself but I worry that the sealant used from the led repair will make it a bad challenge.

My driver side outer strip went completely out. I see a little moisture condensation on the inside lens. I’m assuming it’s the control board inside because it happened suddenly in the rainy humid weather here in Florida. Im good at electronic repairs it’s the separation of the lens and housing that has me nervous. Would you recommend the heat gun or oven technique now that you have done the repair. That’s the only part that I question on what’s best without damage. I have a heat gun already.

I just bought one of these cars and was suprised at how expensive the taillights are. My LEDs are out in the white section of the lights. Is it the same bulb, expect for being white?

Nice video I watched it three times and read all the comments. I've decided it's worth paying $500 to have a professional repair and refurbish the entire lamp with warranty. Besides If I break it trying to fix the lamp, my list of : broke things while trying to fix would become even longer.

@@GoatRopeGarage Thanks for the info. I just bought one off facebook marketplace for $450, it looks great but has one strip completely out. Also noted by my wife it has water trapped inside. Hope the repair place in California doesn't reject the lamp due to water inside. My original lamp works completely but has cracks on the lens. Wife said swap the lens, but risk of breakage is doubled.

Well I did it, got the lens cover off using a small hair dryer, a plastic pry tool and patience. It was full of water that's why it was flickering. Dry it out, hook it up to the car and bingo everything worked, no soldering needed. Thanks again for the most excellent video.

Any heat gun will work, heck a hair dryer might work for splitting them, just be careful with a heat gun as it can warp the lens.

So...I paid some guy I found on the XLR forum....he scratched the top of my light and I overlooked it.....the first rain I had.....there was condensate forming in the light....could never reach the guy again so fast forward a couple of years.....I let the car sit and decided I'm going to drive the car......nope...lights not working now. My question is.....I don't know what the guy used to glue it back together.....do you think heat will still open it up?

@@GoatRopeGarage thank you for the reply, Okay so how did you get your instrument cluster to work and things of that nature reason why I'm asking is because I have a 2010 Camaro originally a 6-cylinder car I threw in a 5.7 and a 4 L70 transmission and of course my cluster didn't operate among other things so I had to reinstall the factory PCM that way it will communicate with all the other modules in the car that way my dash for instance where work how did you overcome that?

just make sure you people are aware. When you replace one or two leds and not all of them, in a few weeks or months others will start going out .that is why people that do them for a living replace all the leds and the control board with a NEW ones. This is a good patch job if you have an old beater and just want to get by and don't mind a warped lens or possibly breaking it. if you have what looks like cracks on the top area that you can see you will most likely have many pieces when you take it apart .at best the cracks will open up enough to leak moisture into the light

I have been sending them all to one guy who gets 400. he has done about 25 over the last 4-5 years . replaces all the leds wit ha later upgrade found on the 2015 and up cars. never has a failure. I am really watching the tune video. I have a belt supercharger I have all lined up on one of mine. I can make it fit , I just cannot make it run.

Anyone else have issues with the drivers side headlight? Our turn signal bulb overhead and melted the yellow cover. All the replacements I've found have the same issue and run between $4-7k. Thanks...

That was supposed to have been remedied by the 2005 year model but mine had it too. Fortunately mine did it while the XLR was still in production and I got it fixed. The best you can do is perform the resistor fix that will at least stop it from melting more or buy some used ones for major money.

Not at all! I have essential tremors, had then since I was about 12, nervous system thing, kind of like Parkinson's, but they are an at rest tremor where as essential tremors are a motion tremor that show up when you're trying to do something. Can barely solder anymore because of them but it's one of those things where the medicine to help is as bad as just dealing with them. It's much less debilitating than Parkinson's and usually gets to a point of severity and levels out, mine haven't gotten much worse in the last decade. Mine predominately appear through my hands and my vocal cords.

It took about three hours to work the lenes off using a heat gun , after that it was a simple process. You must go slow!

You don't purchase these tail lights, they go for $3k, you can get an SRX taillight for cheap and harvest the controller
