Thanks for taking it apart and show how it's done! ;) Have been looking for info on these cool little cameras. I really like these, they can compete with a lot of other popular cameras, like the Olympus equivalents. And these Pentax's are much cheaper. I used to take these into the moshpits and they never broke down. Even after repeatingly being bashed around, fallen down the stairs, etc. I always wonder if it's neccesary to bleed the capacitor in these kind of cameras before working on them? With amplifiers I usually do so. By the way: the unidentified part that came loose, is from the "piezo" on top of the camera, which fixates it into the body.

James, thx for very instructive video. I needed to dismantle my Pentax to r/r front sliding cover. It needed a drop of silicone oil on the metal slider and locks, now works perfectly with little effort to close. The screws are different, they must go back in the right place! Now everything functions except the rear film back latch, it no longer springs open. A puzzle since nothing fell out or became detached. Any suggestions? Stephen C.

There is a long spring that sits loosely in the body near the latch. Mine sprang free with velocity a few times. Check if that’s still present or nearby.
@stephencrowfoot2445 жыл бұрын
James, thx for info re spring. It resides in a slot behind the film door latch. Lost but replaced with a spare from a few dead cameras gifted from a camera shop. Care needs to be taken reassembling the top cover, the self timer switch contacts are very delicate, easy to damage and the ISO setting slider needs to be correctly installed! Good to see steel gears on the film wind mech. Again thx. 👍

@@stephencrowfoot244 Yeah, in the video the front cover seemed to just snap on without any issues. With my camera the self timer contacts have been bended heavily. One possible way to avoid this is slipping a thin card under the contacts while putting the front on again. And in addition watch out for the shutter release knob being fully out - if it is not the cover will not slip in place.

i've tried tons of small screwdrivers, even went to a hardware store and they gave me the smallest one they had, and nothing seems to work to unscrew that last screw on the side where the flash is before taking off the front. any advice? it seems like you're able to do it with the same one you used to unscrew all the other screws but it's not working for me somehow

Will this also work for getting the flash to release? It seems the flash release won’t let it pop out.. everything else seems to work fine

Ok so my grandpa gave me this kind of camera for a birthday present when I was 8/9 my grandpa thought it was a great idea to take it to school and show everyone for show and tell. Long story short something happened to the flash and it goes up and down fine all the buttons work but the problem is the flash won’t stay down. I’ll push it down and it will pop right back up again. Any suggestions?

Hello - I have a similar problem with my Pentax pc35af-m. I loaded film and closed the back, then closed the back. It wound, and for some reason I opened the back to check it. Then closed it, and it rewound. I managed to take 6 photos, then when I tried to take another, it wouldn't work. I check the batteries etc and all was fine. So I reopened the back, closed it, it wound, then I managed to take one photo. When I tried to take another, the same happened, I opened the back, it rewound, then I could take another photo. This happened one more time but this time I wasn't able to take a photo. I wondered whether it was my mistake in having immediately opened the back after installing the film - I haven't yet taken out the film and tried to put in a new roll. Before this I took it to a local camera shop for a quote. They've told me it requires a full service and would cost me £204 because of a faulty shutter release, as well as one other problem. Do you think if I simply replace the film and have another go it might be ok? Or do you think I'll have to pay the full amount for its repair? It's a high amount and I want to see if there's anything I can do myself first. Thank you!

Hi, did you ever resolve? I have a PC35AF-M that begins winding as soon as batteries are installed and it doesn't stop.
@louiskaufman97214 жыл бұрын
Hey James, my PC35 AF has an odd problem. I can take pictures but it skips exposures seemingly at random. When I wind the camera it doesn't always catch. sometimes I scroll past 6 exposures before It properly sets and I can take a picture. On the first roll only 6 exposures came through with no discernible pattern. Any thoughts? The shots that did work came out so good I don't want to give up on this camera yet!

hey, I have the auto wind version of this camera, it seems when i load batteries in, the shutter button is loose, not stuck down, but when pushed down it does not fire. Also as soon as the batteries are put in, it makes the sound and the lights come on as if the shutter button is semi depressed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@jamesvdm4 жыл бұрын
I think the problem happens when the shutter is forced down while the door is closed. So yeah it could happen again if the camera is in a bag or pocket and gets knocked for example.
