I really like this rail-topper application! It will save a little lady from buying a whole new door installation. You taught this old dog a new trick!

Unbelievable! YOu should be an instructor at a technical school for sliding doors!!! :D Thank you so much for putting up this video and taking your time to show everything that could be wrong with the door. My doors aren't even this bad and I was advised to get new ones... and I have 3 sets of sliding doors! You just saved me a ton of money. Now I'll get my son to watch the video so he can do it. Thank you kindly!

Man I wish that website worked! I'm dying over here. Literally no one in the area does track repairs. Only new door installations. At two grand it's a a no go. But my rail is smashed almost flat in some places. Haha shoot I need parts and there seems to be no body left for eight foot doors

Wish you would have shown what to fill in part of track where the bad divot was. Thanks for the video

I don't care if he cut off the last part. I can figure the rest out. What I appreciate the most is his talent as a craftsman. I've always admired talent. Great video.

For really badly worn tracks (flat, where the door has slid over it with no wheels) the repair track may not work so well. Even using Epoxy to glue it down won't work long. If the door itself is in bad shape, such as needing a handle, rollers, frame is falling apart, gaps show around it, etc, yes you DO need to replace it soon, and it could be $1500 minimum. In most areas you can find a cheap replacement for under $1000 (plus labor.) Keep in mind the trim repair you'll probably also have to do, however.

Good job! Too bad you are not here in Los Angeles, CA. I would have called you to repair my sliding patio door that is as bad! Question - Is it expensive to repair a dadly worn door? Is your charge so high that I should start looking for a replacement instead?
@aerospacecadet97815 жыл бұрын
Momly worn door are always much more expensive!

The best takeaway I’ve gotten from this video is that as bad as the rail is, he was able to fix it and at worst, a new rail would need to be pit in, bit certainly not. WHOLE new door! This job is beyond my skills, but should help save me a whole lot of money by not getting a whole new door, when it’s a simple fix!
Hi Bruce, I am having trouble with my sliding glass door leaking air a lot so I thought you placing the track would help it from leaking underneath but I noticed that my sliding glass door does not have any wheels it is simply the door the track. My apartment is quite a bit older I'm thinking maybe that's why. Do you have any ideas of repairing leaking air?

This video wasted many minutes showing the cutting and grinding of the old track. Then the installer explained he wasn't going to show other details which were actually very important to the process: the actual installation of the track cover.
@alicenichols29359 жыл бұрын
I wish he had continued the video to show the entire process.
@redgreen58313 жыл бұрын
its not complicated. if you think its a problem, you need to have someone else do it. self explanatory. clean old rail and grind. cut cap rail. glue it on. replace door onto track with new roller. simple instructions.
@jimcullinane40747 жыл бұрын
I see the door slides open a little when it's shut. Does that mean the track is still worn under the bending cap? Would a more substantial cap screwed down into the frame be a better fix for such a worn rail?
@CustomDoor6 жыл бұрын
The reason it slides back open is it is installed on an enclosed porch and the porch is unlevel so it opens back up a little

Okay BRUCE, Have to agree, --taking the door off is a lot of work--you don't show it. You don't say--WATCH OUT--THE GLASS DOORS are HEAVY and will crush small animals. Because a double paned glass door is very heavy-TWO healthy people should be used. Then you don't mention how to set the height or any adjustments on the door.
@onou81also7 жыл бұрын
If you have to be told that the huge piece of glass and aluminum is going to be heavy, then you shouldn't fool with your door. You must not have noticed in the video that there are TWO people working on the door. That should have been a clue to it being heavy.
@altusfirst10 жыл бұрын

The door has is single glazed (NOT INSULATED UNIT) so it's just dirty, not bad. We are in the door repair business and not the glass cleaning business.
