When it comes to packing taper bearings, I was taught to push the grease up from the wide end exclusively, until it comes all the way through and starts oozing out the narrow end - the idea is that it avoids the potential for a bit in the middle of the bearing to have less grease than the rest. And for those who like to use a bearing packer: I've never been as happy with the results of those as I have with doing it manually. Cheers, Paul. :-)

I keep saying but as a novice you're really helping me learn. I've shimmed ball joints before but i probably didn't really understand what i was doing. I believe i "get it" better now. That was one beast of an anvil 😄 Thanks HRE!

Excellent use of a chuck. Wish I had thought of it. Also a very simple and effective way of greasing a bearing. Many people don’t realise how easy it is to over grease a bearing and the damage it can do. That’s why the packets the grease comes in, in the kit always looks too small, but aren’t. You cannot be too careful. I used to wear cotton gloves handling them. Also excellent example of the use of a simple spring balance and the ubiquitous dial gauge. Despite its ruggedness, the Landy was intolerant of incorrectly tightened bearings. As usual, very interesting and educational but I have to admit I am intrigued and this is compounded by Norman’s comment. I’m looking at the video and it’s obvious that the brake shoes will only fit the way they are fitted but it doesn’t look right. The leading shoe looks upside down and the trailing shoe is chamfered which doesn’t make sense. If I just saw the picture of the shoes I’d assume I was looking at the passenger side. Given what’s there I’ d expect binding due to the self servo action of the leading edge. I wonder? Still great stuff. Enjoyed immensely.

Paul very in depth if you cockup after that vid you shouldn’t be working on a Landy ,you failed to say you must clean out the wheel arch first because the cow muck always gets in your hair and the family look at you awkwardly 😂 The old hubs where filled with ep 90 but if the customer wouldn’t pay for the rebuild it was 140 to try and make it last longer the oil was sat on the air heater over night to warm because it wouldn’t flow from the can ,those where the days when men where men and sheep where frightened 😂keep them coming fanbloodytastic 👍👨🏻‍🏭🇬🇧

@@unclekevin5094 No Kev, nothing to do with how fast you can type. Its all to do with you having cheap slow internet, we all know how tight you Scotts are lol. HRE timed this just right. I've just come in from taking the roof off my 62 Mini. What a sod of a job.

@@paulrobinson3528 I apologise if you think I am from Scotland but actually I am from and live nearly 800 miles in the other direction. I am Luxembourgish and have lived here for over 40 years. Strangely my dad and myself took the roof off a 60s mini in my youth and turned it over and made a very nice small garden pond for goldfish. As we didnt need to reuse it an angle grinder in the corners and sides and job done. I think the whole shell from a write off cost £25 . we used the rear subframe to make a towing trailer. Happy days.

That's the second video I have seen on how to rebuild the swivel hub and the reasoning given for why they are built the way they are has been the same and the other video was done by a guy in new Zealand if I am not mistaken and he has had to work on and nurse his landy in the wild on the fly so to speak, thoroughly interesting video, I definitely feel a little more educated each week Paul.
