Out of interest, why do you not use a Duplex timing chain ? and why not a centre main strap ? Also, did you use a special cam lube for the bearings or just engine oil ?

If these are fully floating, would you not have been inclined to rebush the small end to eliminate any machining angle inaccuracies? I’d also like to have attempted to measure if the big end is honed square in the rod.

Paul Best disc brakes / wheel combinations for the classic Mini : 10" wheels with 7.5 discs. Some 10" wheels accept 7.9" discs?? or even 8.1 discs. Do you know which fit ?

Hi! Great video. My mini shifts worse when the engine is warm. I have noticed that it is a clutch problem, do you think it is a wear or adjustment problem. Thank you very much.

Do you only have to do one side or both . If one side doesn’t it make the steering wheel look out of true.

Just a thought on the faffy pin on the shaft. When the ring is of the shaft out the way, paint, or score a line up the shaft in line with the hole/pin so when its all going back together, you have a good idea of where the pin is sitting. Does that make sense? I'm not really a gearbox person, but I was looking to rebuild an F13 dog box and was looking for vids, but not a lot out there. Like your work though, a good insight as what to look for, thanks.

I'm having terrible problems with brake judder in my mini. Been through 4 sets of discs and pads in no time. I've changed my calipers, flexi hoses, wheel bearings. I'm just wondering if the discs I'm buying from the usual mini suppliers are poor quality. Just seen brembo make them so might give them a go. Any other suggestions what might be causing my issue? I don't drive like a nutter by the way!

Back in the 1970s got involved with clubman style car powered by a 1310 cooper s motor. Held lap record around most circuits in Australia for about 5yrs after it was retired. Had head gasket issues which no one could cure & put down to very high compression. I did few experiments & finally fixed it by countersinking the head stud holes in the block. Have noticed some manufacturers stop the threads about 5 to 8 mm down from the block face, which I'm guessing achieves the same thing. For the past 55yrs I have countersunk all threaded holes in everything & deleted gaskets in favour of loctite. Solved many oil leaks. Some of us old farts have learnt a thing or two. 😂

My first car was a Clubman with a 1100 ccm motor. I had 100+ rims on it (10x6") ? and a small steering wheel. At some point one of the valves burned, and I had the possibilty to exchange the whole motor with a motor from a Austin Allegro 1100...so I did and it fitted perfect..but the gearbox from the Allegro was for 13" wheels,so there was not big topspeed, but lots of revs and acceleration...didn´t need to downshift for overtaking :D :D

Is the regular cooling affected by the fan being so close to the radiator? I just purchased a mini with the fan inside the wheel arch, i think your mounting spot is better for electric cooling, but I'm worried about impeding air flow when the fan is not activated. Thanks!

Very interesting and well done video. Have owned a 998cc Cooper and two 1275cc 'S' types (one I bored +0.020" to 1293cc). On one of those cars, it had oil pressure at idle but as the engine was revved up, the pressure went down! In the end I stripped the engine down and found that the bolts holding the oil pump in place were only finger tight, from the factory. As the engine was revved, the pump started sucking air. I did this out on the street with the engine in situ. The biggest problem was breaking the flywheel from the crankshaft taper. I did everything shown in the video (made my own heavy duty puller) and the flywheel only broke free when I added a bit of heat and then hit it with a hammer with the puller fully tightened. It came free with quite a bang. Loved my Mini's though, and still do😃

If you install adjustable suspension is a must to use 4 scales, one for each wheel, to make a perfect tuning. You can check each corner height but you need a perfect distribution of corner weight.

The rub marks on your shaft is caused by the slop in the swivel housing and its rubbing on the inside of the stub axle/spindle. I have the same issue with the swivel hub moving so much that it started to bind the half shaft against the stub axle/spindle and it heated up so much that it welded it to the inside of the stub axle/spindle and broke off. I still haven't figured out the reason for this movement since the alignment of the swivel housing relative to the axle shaft is fixed...not adjustable. The shims in the top swivel housing pin only set the amount of force required to move the swivel housing from right to left. Great video and was great for me to see another series III swivel housing video to help me continue my effort to understand why my swivel housing is not aligned properly with the half shaft coming out after being bolted in and seated in the lower swivel bearing.

Memory lane I hated those one flat at a time UJ bolts Only thing worse was the Effing Brass bushings on the drive shafts Rather than actual Differential Ball Bearings. British engineering at it's Best. Forgot ?? the wee rubber boot on that sliding axle Save the S engines for posterity !??? Geeeesus... Only in Museum England.. mercifully.. Erm No power tools or even rachets/sockets in the UK ?? Hmm a ~100 hp (maybe) Race engine While the prepubescent down the street has ~137 hp in his stock clapped out Civic and actual brakes.

With the spring now with more tension, will it slip with less wear on the clutch. Does it make a difference in that way?
