Repairing Bosch and hitachi grinders. A nice big box of grinders just landed in for repair.

It's not unusual to get a large box of grinders on like this. Normaly from engineering companies.
They are always in a rough worn out state, but as long as they are decent brands like bosch, hitachi, makita or metabo they can normaly be fixed up for reasonable money.
This is a common problem when repairing machines. They often come in without leads or plugs and you cannt tell what voltage it is.

I stripped one of these down last night. Cleaned it, decreased and regreaded. Bearings were fine in the head the two armature bearings were slightly gritty. I pop the seal off the bearings and flush with brake cleaner to get the grit out, using a cordless die grinder with a rubber backing pad for sanding I use the rubber edge to spin the bearing up to help flush it. Then I repack lightly, seal on and spin it up again good and fast. Once it's hot to touch I pop the seal and wide away the majority of the grease ai can see with a cloth so it's not over packed and close it up. With the Japanese made bearings this seems to be a great way to get more life out of them. The Chinese ones it seems to be too late to bother every time I have tried it.

I worked at a sheet metal shop that had a 4’ gang box full of old grinders and drills ! I got 3 grinders working out of it 4 drills THEN the road crew came in and cleaned the tool room out emptied the gang box in a dumpster. Some where around 40 grinders and drills gone !

I’m spending way too much time using cordless grinders. I miss the beautiful tubular housings of those corded brushed motor grinders. Even the new Hilti cordless grinders (think they went to Chervon now) are split right down the middle like a drill.

110v is the norm on building sites here in Ireland
