Great work Matt. Colourlock makes a ton of great products.

That looks pretty good, a month late on my end. I think it looks really good, and who can say they had a seat repair by obsessed garage? Its one of a kind

Just did a 997 seat last weekend with colourlock leather fluid and fresh. It came out great, I just used the fluid first, let it dry for a few hours, sanded it a bit and then did 3 light coats of leatherfresh, drying with the heatgun between coats. Also buffed off with a microfiber at the end. I was really satisfied with the end result. Great DIY product.

I found that the leatherfresh dye wears off over time. I need to do mine again and this time I will add a sealing top coat

Dying is hard with stitch. No matter how good u tape off you still get bleed through. Not bad for your first time.

That was pretty cool. Thank you for your honesty and trying the project. I know how fussy you are, but I think it looks great. Man, after working that much on your car, i would have a hard time letting it go. It looks emaculent.

Great video! Fixed a tear on my chalk colored glovebox the same way. Colourlock's color matching is excellent.

How do you fix the kick marks at the bottom of the doors? Matt mentioned doing that.

I’d like to know too but my doors has it on that hard plastic material that comes in cheaper cars

I cleaned it with M39 and colourlock brush, then coated it with Gtechniq EXO.

Before Matt said it was thinking it's not quite OG spec. but it's great to see the process of how to do this. I'm sure if it wasn't next to a seam it would've been perfect.
@ObsessedGarage Жыл бұрын
I don't think this solution would ever be perfect, but in this use case, it was a significant improvement.

Not bad for not doing leather repair before. More sanding and a spray dye. Sanding to get it a bit smoother and spray dye can blend and possible be a flatter shine, which would get closer to new looking.

There is a trick used on aerograph model painting that can be useful to you. Whenever you wanna fill rough surfaces, just blend the paint or liquid - rubber filler in your case - with thinner on a 50/50 basis so the liquid can penetrate better into the irregular surface and fill it flat. If you want a quality finish you have to use the aerograph to spray the surface. Then the thinner will evaporate and the rubber will remain there. Shave the surface again with high gritt sand paper to make it rough again so the next coat of rubber can addere into it better. Repeat until you are satified w/ the results. This trick works great to repair old VW with rubber coated over plastic door cards and internal handles.

Hey Matt, The colourlock system works great i’m pretty sure if you had to do another one you could get it just about perfect I’m sure you learned a lot doing this one I did as well. I did order the colour chart from colourlock but I noticed that you didn’t have the dye kit in the store. If I get a hold of support, can you guys order it for me as I’d rather buy it through you? Thanks for the video.
@ObsessedGarage Жыл бұрын
Yep, we could order it.

I'd personally rather see the not-so-quite-perfect seat than replacement parts. Repairing the originality is much more gentlemanly.

OG (squint) spec: if you squint, it's mint. That is much improved. You've done amazing work on this car, especially considering the life it lived before your ownership. So if I win, do you want to buy it back? I would love to own it, but I gotta pay that tax bill and kill some debt so I can spend more money at OG.

The proper repair is to take it to an upholstery shop and get the leather replaced, 47 years of doing seats I have never seen one of those repairs that looked that good or held up. But of course you are trying to sell something so hiding damage instead of fixing it is cheaper.
@grantaldous Жыл бұрын
