Thank you for going to the work of posting this video. I just repaired my own DCR-SR200 (saving hundreds of dollars) using this as a guide. This was certainly the most helpful resource I found trying to figure out what was wrong with my camera...and then how to repair it. Thanks for giving me the confidence to try...and for the detailed video to reference. I was extremely nervous to open my camera up and attempt anything. My wife was super-impressed, and that's always a good thing!

Very good explanation! With this video I changed the flex cable of my DCR-SR45. I had some problems with the screwdriver, that now I know it was not the correct tool, and almost damaged some screws. I used another one, and the handycam is working again! Congratulations for the video, and thank you!

After i replaced the flex cable the screen become White, The cable is not loose i tried Arranging it many times but still white, do you know what causes the problem?

White screen is almost ALWAYS caused by a poor connection. These cables can easily be defective right out of the package. If you can return it and get another that is what I would try first. While you wait for a new cable, check for problems with the connectors on the camera. Make sure they are clean and the plastic isn't warped. If it's warped it won't pinch tight enough Look for brown or black burn marks anywhere you can see soldered connections or chips and diodes. Let me know how you get along

I'm sorry to hear that Are there any other small ribbons or wires in the camera that could be loose? Otherwise the only 2 things left are the screen itself or a burnt out component If you had another similar camera you could temporarily connect the screen from it It's a risk though, It's all low voltage but it "could" burn out the other screen

Very handy video. Thanks for the time you took to make this available for us. This is one of the reason, internet is a great resource. I used your video to an extend, especially on how to disconnect cables from their joints. I managed to get to the LCD a bit easier. After removing the case on the HDD, I took out the thing on the bottom of the camera and then i made my way to removing the panel that houses the display door. However, I have to mention that I did this on a sony hdr SR7E.

Thanks so much for posting this video. Thanks to you I was able to fix my Sony HDR-SR12 (new flex cable for the LCD screen) for less than $5 in parts. What is even better no screws left over after the final assembly (did have three left over after the first assembly attempt but the camera worked 100% without them). Many many thanks!!!

Hi, Great video, used to strip my sony DCR-SR52, it appears to have a secondary cable over the screen ribbon, it goes from the screen to the hinge, but it as no fixing on it, it has a metal piece bonded ?to it but was hanging loose, any idea where it goes?

My camera's had it's whole screen whited out and doesn't display anything, but the touchscreen and recording does seem to work, is this a display cable repair as well?

I believe it's the same cable for both, but that doesn't mean a new cable wouldn't fix it so before you buy a new cable make sure it's fully inserted on both ends Also make sure nothing is burnt or melted on the board

Hi Mrein Smith, How are you? Ok, I have a sony handycam DCR-SR45 and it use to work perfectly, then suddenly when I try to switch it on with the battery, a red light just above the battery is continually blinking, I tried to replace the battery but still the same problem. I tried powering it on just with the AC jack, with the battery and without and still nothing. It simply doesn't come on and the red light keeps blinking. Also a green light is on where the photo section is. I have tried to fix and troubleshoot this problem, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

i have the same model, but mine just happened a few months ago. i thought the battery is too old that's why the screen display shows battery level too low. i bought a new battery the other day and it's still the same. i tried cleaning the battery terminals but still turn off after showing battery level low. but it works when plug in with the charger.

It makes me wonder if one of the contacts is loose or broken on the inside, on most devices the contact is soldered. But that doesn't mean it would be fixable

In reply to the post from "the guy with the guitar in front of the flowers", I just replaced my flex cable and the old cable that I removed did not have any visible defect that I could see. However with the new flex cable installed the camera worked just find and the LCD now works 100% of the time. (previously the LCD screen was blank until I wiggled it and the display would then work for about a second or so)

Hi to every one can any one tell me my Sony handycam DCR-SX20 starts showing Damo on the screen after 20 minutes when witched on and plays 50second demo and come back to normal screen for 16 seconds and go back to Damo again for 60 seconds and it continue doing this until any key pressed . I switched of demo in the settings but when I switch the camera next time it do the same thing . Please guide.

Yes they can, as long as you have the option to format storage in your menu you can format it once its installed

As far as i know the model is discontinued, as far as a size limit I don't know, but yoi should be able to format or partition if it won't read a larger drive

My DCR SR68 has a problem where when I press the power button I can hear a humming like something is starting up (probably the hard drive), and the display shows "HANDYCAM". Then the camcorder just shuts off. This happens regardless of whether the camcorder is plugged into AC power or running off the battery or running off AC power without the battery installed. Any ideas?

+Ray Russell Have you tried holding the power button down? I have the DCR SR62 and it was doing the same thing. Holding the power button down kept it powered on and allowed us to record videos but as soon as we release the power button it shuts off.
