Repairing & Refurbishing a Roberts R250 AM/FM Radio

In this video I repair a broken battery connector dismantle and clean the volume and selector switches, clean (as best as possible the case and reassemble & test it.
Not a big or difficult job just a basic one with a pleasing end result.

I have this exact same model, colour, with a dodgy volume switch. Hoping a bit of spray will sort that out (it spent a couple of years in sticky Singapore, plus being transported back in a humid container). So helpful to see how to dismantle it properly - thanks so much, and how to clean it. I am also very jealous of your work station!

Very useful video- the first thing that came up when I looked for 'how to dismantle Roberts R250'. I didn't realise the two little bits of wood had to come out as well. It had been dropped or roughly handled so the speaker was off its mountings and had broken the ferrite rod, part of which was adrift inside the cabinet. I put the ferrite back together again as well as I could, fortunately none of the wires were broken. I'm doing it as a favour to a friend who's really more interested in the FM reception anyway.. As PP9s are impossible to get round our way, I'll find an external 9v supply for it and make sure the polarity is correct.(Negative centre pin is rare) Made the same observation re the discoloration of the control panel, but got the worst of the dirt off that and the knobs anyway. I also cleaned up and found a PSU for a retro Hacker not so long ago.

Thanks, glad you found it useful. You can glue the Ferrite Rod back together, it'll work just as well as before. You can get PP9s from ebay, I've bought many batteries from this supplier, always prompt delivery - not affiliated. Hi Shaun, sorry, no I haven't, I've repaired a few other digital radios but often there is no service data or schematics available which makes fault finding almost impossible.
