Recently acquired one of these with the intention of digitizing some tapes and all seems well with it. The only downside is that only the DVD player outputs via the S-video port, the VCR will only output via the RCAs. Was hoping that I could get an S-video signal off the VCR to push into the capture device.
@ChasLarge5 күн бұрын
According the the Service Manual, the Phono sockets next to the RF In/Out sockets, will output composite video and audio from either DVD or VCR playback, so you should be able to capture playback from those sockets. If you have a SCART to RCA adaptor cable that should work too.
@evanleebodiesКүн бұрын
@ChasLarge yeah but it would have been nice to get a vcr signal out of the s-video port, makes for a cleaner video feed.

Dear Sir, I have a serious problem with my RS-TR575. The 27-pin flex cable that connects the control card to the mainboard, i.e. the connectors CN3A and CN3B, was cut. Due to lack of experience, a 27-pin flex cable was connected inverted. Now it has been reconnected with the corresponding connector, i.e. a direct 27-pin flex cable. Now nothing works, the display doesn't turn on either. The equipment is dead. Could you please help me and know the guidelines to follow.

Beautiful radio indeed ❤❤❤ from Pakistan. Dear Chas, next time please dont use super glue or wax instead melt plastic, it is way more durable❤❤❤❤

No wax used and superglue was the only option as spare parts are no longer available. Hot melt glue or plastic welding are unreliable in user operated parts.

Super helpful video! I repaired a pioneer sx535 with exactly the same failed transistor. I replaced it temporarily with a PN2222A as I didn’t have anything else in stock. It will be fine until I can get a better replacement. All the glue around the FM stereo lamp had sealed over the light causing it to look burnt out but was actually just covered in gunk. Was able to remove most of it with a screwdriver. Excellent video!!

I use a cleaning disc which works well. Bose do not support the notion that replacing certain caps will make these things work. The lens needing cleaning is the prime suspect.
@ChasLarge2 ай бұрын
Ohhh, I don't like those cleaning discs, they have a brush on them which can damage the lens, I've seen the end result of such. A cotton bud with iso on it is much safer.

Thank you very much for the video. I had exactly the same problem: a low output level on the left channel and background noise . As I am not a technician and therefore have neither the knowledge nor the specialized measuring equipment I worked by reasoning starting with the simplest things (visual inspection to check whether there is something fishy like a capacitor leaking or a burn, testing the speakers and the amplifier (Quad 405) by reversing the connections, handling the sockets, etc.). In the end the problem was a bad connection: I noticed it by lightly manipulating the socket which connects the input card with the motherboard (a black plug with red, yellow, green, white wires). A little contact cleaner spray on the male and female parts, I also re-soldered the socket and the problem was solved. I hope this can help those who are facing this problem which can have multiple causes as shown in this excellent video. Keep faith, these devices are very solid (unless they have been badly tinkered with)! PS: I bought my Quad 44/405 new when I was young and they are still in service (so do I).

This is a great video thanks Chas. I have just bought the same model from a clearance sale and it has the dreaded switching off after a few seconds. it will play dvd's perfectly and I can press the select button for vhs and it's fine but when I try to load a tape it tries to load it and the machine shuts down completely. It would not eject the tape using the remote but I found if I held the eject button on the machine and pressed power on on the remote the tape came out ok. I did discover that the head on mine was tight and after watching your video I dismantled it and lubricated as you did and now it spins very freely. I was most disappointed when it didn't solve the problem. I'm assuming it is a mechanical issue and will try again tomorrow. Thanks again for a very informative video.
