Thanks for letting us follow along, Oliver. Nice work re-engineering that frame for the customer. I almost choked on my coffee when I saw that 40mm bracket welded to the 3mm box frame! I am amazed every time I watch your CNC plasma kit work. Your finished pieces look like they were punched out. And they are finished in minutes, not hours. Impressive. Thanks again and have a good week. Cheers.

Another repair that goes out better than original. Good job. Making parts for exhibitions. That is something I spent a while doing. In fact the best job I ever had. I was paid to make things. Paid to take them around Australia. Set up. Pull down. Move on the next. I also did a year of that sort of work in the UK. Which is how I got the job in Australia. The exhibition world is manic. Long hours. Lots of travel. But seasonal. So out here about 9 months of the year. Then a long break. When I took the first job in Australia the guy at my interview said. If you are not prepared to work a 60 hour week there is the door. Some weeks 80 odd hours was more like it. But I loved it.

This is the proper use of the phrase "value engineering." The OEM removed material (thin box section) to add value to HIS bottom line, but you’ve ADDED value for your customer with proper box and additional stiffening at the high stress points. This is what we e come to expect from shops like Snowball Engineering and Cutting Edge Engineering. You’re both cut from the same cloth!

Think you will find it a farmer made bale spike. No way would a manufacturer fit those super heavy brackets to a light weight attachment.

That KUTAVAR X-Y cutting table is absolute magic for your business as much of your business is plate type fabrication. The thought of attempting these repairs with conventional hand/ machine tools must give you nightmares, doable but with what cost in terms of time, which is money.

The original remindes me of a lot of the awful stuff I've worked on. Over-engineered some places, dreadfully under-engineered in others, all parts crammed into such a tight spot that one can't even get a wrench on the fasteners, neccessitating the removal of large, unrelated sections just to get to the broken bits. All designed by evil engineers who've never turned a wrench. So refreshing to see a fabricator build something, with useability/repairability in mind, not to mention proper material sizing.

As an Engineer I'd say that the box section that has the sockets for the bale spikes has been designed so that it will fail over time, especially given the way the attachment points have been over built, with round bales that can weigh anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 pounds (450 to 1,134 kilograms) or even more, and Large rectangular/square bales can weigh 800 to 1500 pounds, that they have use a box section with a 3mm wall highly suggests that it has done as a designed in failure point. I was working for a General Engineering Co when Roller Bales first arrived on the scene and we were asked to scratch build a handler attachment for the Roller Bales, admitted we over engineered it with 120mm square box with 10mm wall and mounts similar to the ones in you video, Our failure point turned out to be the OEM spikes that we had to use at the customers insistence. they were bending long before the attachment frame showed ant distortion at all. Very nice arch design, very adaptable.

Just a thought but you could make up a simple jig using a piece of angle and some pins that locates on some of the cutting "fins" of the Kutavar and gives you a nice corner/line reference for cutting odd shapes like SHS/RHS etc without having to measure every time

Mit-two-toy-o. :) BTW, those splayed ends on your reenforcing brackets do serve a purpose: it distributes the heat affected area from the weld, (horizontally in this case), rather than it being in a single (vertical) line. It makes it far less likely that the forces (downwards on your tynes), will shear the box section along the weld line. Just angling the ends of the reenforcing plate at 45° one way or other would also work, but wouldn't be as pretty. You're getting very good with your plasma washing; and better at your hated painting :)

If I had the money, I'd buy you one for you, I did think of buying one and setting up my own business, but alas ill health took that option away from me. Really liked the archway, would look really good in someone's garden. That repair is far better than the factory finish, which you always do and should really put out in your advertising. 👍

If you scrap the tines I would keep them and have a day making three foot pinch bars to sell, another way to reuse instead of sending to the scrap yard. I would make them from an old small combine pre beater in an old Ransoms combine harvester. They made grand pinch bars, they were 1 inch round. Extra money from a day when you don't have any work. The firm I worked for are based in Durham but has another in Northallerton and one in Alnwick. You probably know who they are because I believe that you are near the Northallerton shop. I've just watched this video then as I was looking to watch another video I saw one that might also interest you. From in Poland making pipe end press, it looks like a small punch press.
