Thanks so much. The step I was stuck on was how to assemble the large round metal ring onto the plastic. One thing that was difficult was snapping the plastic assembly onto the nozzle of the inner rubber disk.

+Dan Pinson thanks for the socket tip! i kept assembling it, and taking it back apart because the handle didnt snap back...the rubber wasnt all the way through the plastic assembly.

Great video! Oddly enough I had the same problem as the top comment... I put back the spring several times, would line up the indents and click everything into place but the plastic with the valve would pop out. On my last try, instead of lining up the plastic valve to all the holes in the stainless steel piece, I shifted it to the left, (so not all lined up with the holes/indents) so only 2 holes are lined up and so far so good, works as good as new. go figure.

Hi Miro. Without even realizing it, I used your video to replace used portafilter with the kit I received today - Searched KZbin and your vid was the best. Me not noticing who had made the video. Everything went well. Now it is two hours later. Went shopping etc. etc., came back on Internet and got to visit Sophia, typed your name haphazardly and here you are. Any explanation on how this needle and seat pressure valve portafilter is supposed to work. It appears that when mine is at rest, the needle is open. I would think it should be closed until nine bar pressure is reached. Mine seems open all the time.

Can I make this into a non pressurized portafilter my just reinserting the small wire around the top and leaving everything else out?

What’s the purpose of the handle that is spring loaded and wiggles back-and-forth several degrees? Before replacing my original portafilter(Estro Vapore-predecessor to Starbucks Barista) that handle didn’t spring back. You kept the handle to the right until the pressure built up and the motor tone changed pitch. Then you move the handle to the left to allow the espresso to flow out. I don’t understand the purpose of the spring loaded handle in this current portafilter. As it’s designed it always springs back to the left. I tried holding it to the right, but that did not prevent espresso from flowing out.Thanks.

Any ideas on why coffee would be pouring out of the 3 holes where the screws are? I can imagine it could be that the valve gets stuck. But otherwise?

Thanks Moro. The video is very instructive. But still I have a question this portafilter is affecting the espresso quality or not? Because when I open it it gives no crema at all, for second trial of open the portafilter and reassemble it it’s stucked.

Just to make sure I got this right - the rubber valve plate ring is placed with the taller side towards the basket, or towards the holder (because the video is a bit blurry, I couldn't make it out clearly)? Placing it teh wrong way would position the valve plate differently and change the valve opening pressure...

hey. My portafilter handle broke. It still works, I just have to grab the filter part directly to screw it in or remove it. No easy task when it pipping hot. Anyone know if there's a way to get JUST the plastic exterior+ handle for a Saeco Via Venezia portafilter?? Didn't really want to spend $60 on a whole new one when all I need is the plastic frame. ie. in this video at 3:00, the part on the table framed between his wrists.

First you need to install the mechanism with the valve in the body, and then insert the plate. This is much easier to do and there is no risk of breaking the mechanism.
