Turning and undercutting commutators is how I got started in the machine shop of an electric motor shop, I miss being in the machine shop but I don't miss slotting and dragging out the comms one bit.

Nice to know that you have worked with this, I have developed this way after much difficulty when it was wearing out the commutator of the rotor, it was terrible not to find in Brazil, this motor costs about $180 in the U.S., but here in Brazil it comes to $500.00 or a little more, for our currency it is very expensive. So I started to do that, and it worked, I have 3 of them working for years. Thank you for your comment. Luiz

This is pure gold! I just forwarded this to a friend who was asking about doing the same on treadmill motors. You are the master of the Sherline!

That's the most wear I've ever seen on a commutator. Good work on cleaning it up. How do you grind those tiny cutters? Do you use a microscope?
@tryally2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! So the all the tiny cutters I make a magnifying 40 x lens, seems a microscope but is called binocular lens.

Great video man & subscribed, Im in the UK & love my Sherline lathe. They are fantastic machines & so underrated, they are capable of much bigger heavier work than a lot of people realize.
