Yep, folks, I am "hooked" on Repashy food. Though this food doesn't exactly smell like a rose, the fish love it. Not only is this food loaded with good nutritious stuff for all my aquatic roommates - fish, bottom feeders, shrimp, snails - it solved a problem for me in tanks where I housed both fish and bottom feeders.
In this video - all about Repashy food, why I like it, and how to prepare it. Repashy doesn't just make "superfood" for fish, but all types of animals including reptiles, insects, and even exotic mammals.
Here's to you Alan Rapashy - I am raising a tablespoon of Shrimp Souffle to ya -
Links to the products referenced in this video, below (Since the video's release, I am now using 6oz and 12oz jars - Repashy is a fish family favorite now):

Totally agree with your experience feeding dry wafers/dry pellets to fish. I was seeing swim bladder issues after a few weeks of feeding, so I think you're onto something with that issue. My solution to this was to pre soak the pellets before feeding. This helped prevent the wafers/pellets from expanding in the fish's stomachs as they had already expanded during the pre soak. Hope that helps guys out there who are seeing swim bladder issues with their fish. I just bought Repashy Soilent Green, can't wait to give it a try! Nice video mate 👌

Btw, I didn't have any Tupperware handy so I just used a rinsed-out Greek yogurt cup. It was made with polypropylene (PP, recycle number 5), which can take boiling water without melting. So I got to reuse something I was going to dump anyway. It's also the perfect size for smaller batches of food.

I make my own wit baby food ( vegetable & fish mixtures ) add some of my frozen food & flake food & mix with unflavored gelatin & my fish love it. Freeze it on a cookie sheet, cut into small cubes & freeze it. Drop 1 cube in tank for about 5 hrs. & remove it so it won't cloud the water . After that it starts to crumble after the fish pick at it for a few hrs. Way cheaper than repashy & Even cheaper when baby foods are on sale. Try it.

Thanks. I never heard of this food but now I’m going to order some. I also appreciate the demonstration - it gives new meaning to “the home cooking show “! 🍽 my bottom feeders are Cory cats and otos. I’m saving plecos for the 55G I’ll soon be setting up. One guppy was dead this morning, but after the peas, the other 2 have perked up today and seem to be doing better. I was really surprised the way they all went after the peas. I hate peas...... I looked for 100% Epsom salt today but every store I went to was stocked with Epsom salt with lavender scent or eucalyptus scent, etc, so I ordered some on Amazon. Won’t get here in time for this problem but I’ll have it on hand.

Hi Deborah - sorry for the late reply here - catching up on comments! Happy New Year! Lol - Repashy is "home cooking" for the fish, for sure, but it is really nutrient rich, with tons of good stuff for the fish. Sorry to hear about the one guppy, but glad to here the other two are doing better! It is surprising how fish will go after peas like they are a treat - I hate them too! Nice job getting the regular Epsom - we don't want anything scented. But at least you will have it on hand in the future! Always good to keep in the cabinet :)

@dmichaelsfishden 6 жыл бұрын
J.D. My pleasure! Everyone eats the Repashy :) Yep, even the snails. For the Bettas, (who will eat anything they can get their fins on) they seem to prefer a combination mix of Repashy's Community Plus (I do 70% mix here), with about a 30% mix of Grub Pie. The only Repashy food the Bettas don't really go for (at least my Bettas) is the Morning Wood - but that is meant more for Plecos anyway....Hope that helps and thank you for checking out the video!

Very interesting observation about swim bladder and the expansion of the algae wafers. Recently I have been pre-soaking my wafers then cutting them up so I could better disperse the food around the tank for some smaller catfish that I felt were not getting their share when I fed dried wafers. I did notice the wafers would expand significantly but never considered this also happening in their stomachs and possible consequences. I will continue to pre-soak the wafers and thank your for this video. From the Repashy videos I have watched they all comment on the smell. I have been considering trying them out although my wife may make a stink (pun intended) about this especially storing them in the refrigerator.
@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 7 жыл бұрын
My pleasure, Rod. In truth, all processed food expands to a certain extend in water, it just seems that the wafers expand more than other food. Great job pre-soaking the wafers - that is the safe way to go :) Because if your catfish is like mine, they eat quickly, and those wafers will expand in their stomach.....Besides soaking the wafers, give good 'ol repashy food a try :) Since it's gel based it's softer and I tend to believe it's more easily digestible...though none of my fish have spoken up and told me that...yet ;)

This is tempting; I've been frustrated getting food to my bottom feeders (amanos in a community tank), too. How big a cube would you recommend for a 20-long with half a dozen platys and 11 neons? (And some always in hiding amanos...)
@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 7 жыл бұрын
Anthony - It's really great stuff and a nice alternative to wafers when you have BOTH fish and bottom feeders in a tank. For platys (in my experience they have been competitive eaters where neons are not as competitive) and neons you might want to try the Repashy Community Plus or Grub Pie foods. More catered toward fish. For your Amanos, go with the Shrimp Souffle. You may have to experiment, but at first, maybe try to go with (2) 1 centimeter square cubes for the neons and (1) 1 centimeter cube for the platys. The food is not as dense an algae wafer so it could move a little more on the bottom.(1) 1 centimeter cube of the Shrimp Souffle should take care of the Amanos. Platys will go after any food in the tank, but the Repashy won't expand like wafters do. Amanos are pretty competitive (they run my tanks as far as shrimp are concerned) so they will find the food and really, eat anything. Also - for the Amanos...one thing the fish won't touch and is specifically designed for shrimp - you can try the Fluval Shrimp Granules.
@anthonyragan2696
@anthonyragan2696 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to give the Repashy a try. And, yeah on both platys being food bullies and the amanos fearing nothing: just grab the food and run. :)

I have a small tank of platies and a pleco. Most of my fish don't like the gel repashy. Do I just keep offering it and hope it doesn't pollute the water?
@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shin - What type of Repashy are you offering? I've found that some fish can be picky sometimes, depending on the flavor :) My plecos have always liked the "Morning Wood" or "Soilent Green" food, but I do mix that a bit with "Community Plus." My livebearers aren't as hot on the "Community Plus" but love the "Grub Pie." Everyone loves the "Shrimp Souffle." You may want to try changing up the "flavor" and see if that makes a difference. But - if your fish don't like the texture, I wouldn't keep offering it. After a few feedings, if they don't like it, you definitely don't want to pollute the water. This may also be helpful - when I make mine I use 1 tablespoon of Repashy (usually a mix), with 3 tablespoons of water. My guys and gals seem to prefer the 3 to 1 ratio. :)

@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 4 жыл бұрын
Brandon - great question. Glad you picked up some Repashy for them! I was trying to think of an analogy...they can take 1 or 2 pieces that are about the size of an aspirin....depending on the size of the goldfish - or if you've ever fed mini algae wafers...2 pieces of Repashy about that size will work great- maybe 3...again, depends on their size...You could also break off 2 or 3 larger chunks and just let them graze on it as needed - that's what most of my fish do now - I cut the food up into what looks like tiny little ice cubes and spread them around the tank to let the fish nibble on it - your goldfish will love the food though. All my fish go crazy for it, and it is packed with all kinds of healthy, good stuff for them. Hope that helps a little!

I have a baby BN pleco. He’s very small and I’m having a difficult time knowing if he’s eating much or how much he should be eating at his small size. I recently put in a small chunk of zucchini, which he seemed to enjoy. Two days later I went to take out the remaining zucchini and it had gone BAD. It broke apart, smelled horrible, and made for a hell of a cleanup for me. So I recently bought Repashy Morning Wood. My question is this: If he doesn’t eat the whole piece, do I need to remove it? Will it rot or turn the water gross? Or does it simply dissolve? Thanks, in advance. 😁
@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole - sorry for the late reply here! My apologies. The morning wood is great for Plecos 👍 I feed Repashy all the time, and I just leave it in the water. Your Pleco will go back to graze on it from time to time. It can cloud the water a little, but it doesn't turn the water gross. I cut off small squares for mine (think a square piece of cum, just a little smaller than that) then drop them in. The Zucchini, though, is still a great thing to feed. You do want to take it out after 24 hours though, because it sure can smell bad. To feed zucchini, i use The Pleco Feeder:www.theplecofeeder.com/ The first video I ever did on KZbin was a review of the Pleco Feeder, just because I thought it was so neat, people should know about it..kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHi4ZH-nmZp1nbc Hope all that helps!

@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 6 жыл бұрын
Alexis - I get mine direct from Repashy Foods. www.repashy.com. Scroll on the top to "products by name" and you will find all their stuff. These 3oz containers have lasted me a long time. I bought each 3oz container for $8.99. I did try Amazon as well, but they don't seem to sell anything but the 6oz jars. That was too much for my needs. BUT as a comparison, Amazon sells Soilent Green (as an example) for $14.99 for a 6oz jar, where you can get it through Repashy direct for $13.99. I love the owner and the food, so I like to support Repashy directly by buying straight through them. Depending on how many tanks and fish you have, a 3oz container will last quite awhile 😀 Hope that helps!

Do you use tap water or water that has been conditioned to remove chlorine, etc.? Thank you,
@dmichaelsfishden
@dmichaelsfishden 5 жыл бұрын
Krafty - great question. For the Repashy, I just use regular tap water, which I put in the microwave before adding to the food, bring the water to a boil. Boiling the water removes the chlorine, so that takes care of it. I'm not sure if boiling removes chloramine from the water, but it is such as small amount of water I haven't seen it make a difference. I was nervous about adding any water conditioner to the food my fish would be eating, so I've never added it. I just boil the water, add it to the Repashy, let it cool, then serve it to my guys. I've been preparing it this way for 3 years without any adverse effects 😀👍 But I would definitely boil the water before adding to the food

Of course :) It doesn't smell like a summer's day, for sure, but....if you place it in the fridge in a small glad tupperware where it's sealed, you won't smell it at all. You will definitely get a good whiff as you are preparing it - it's a smell you have to get used to, but your fish will smell it through the tank and across the room and will be excited :)
