As a dutch art history student... Im so sad that this happend😢

I dont know who made the helmet but let's be honest they probably stole the gold from pillaging.
@abiandflow9 күн бұрын
@bonghittaz1502 that is quite rong actualy. The helmet dates from 450 bce and was made by the Geto-Dacians who were known for their gold and mostly mined it out of the ground themselves. The stolen piece from the museum in Drente was temporarily lent by a museum in Romania. But lets be honest the origin of the gold or the helmet is neither here nor there. Fact is that it will probably get melted down by the theives and a beautifull piece of romanian art will be lost. That is what should matter right now! I honestly can't with the attitude that because art has ended up in a place it shouldn't have it is not worth protecting. Its like saying that when stolen art in the British museum gets destroyed we should be happy, no we should be deeply sad that it had never been returned to the rightful owners. Art is beautiful don't judge it by who owns it right now and certainly don't go assuming that all ancient art came about from pillaging. It says more about you than them, that you hold ancient peoples to such a low standard. Do some quick research before you talk please.

@@bonghittaz1502 You think gold can't be mined? Romanian mountains are full of gold, especially back in those days where gold was easily found in all mountain rivers. Also dacians didn't invade nobody. Sorry your ancestors were shitty lol.

@@abiandflowyou're telling me to do research when you cant even spell the word "wrong" ? Clearly you didn't do the research either because the date 2500 years ago was 478 BCE not 450 BCE so whatever website you copy and pasted that from so you could sound smart was wrong. Where did I say it was a good thing it was destroyed? Where did I say we should be happy its going to be melted down? Ye I didn't did I. It's also funny telling me my attitude is bad when you are the one being the condescending know it all trying to flex your non existent intelligence to someone random online you don't even know because I made a "probably" statement. Do you know what that word means ? It means most likely or in all likelihood which means there is still room for error which is why I used that word instead of saying "definitely". I make art myself and I love art no where did I say we should be throwing a party and celebrating that it got stolen and will be destroyed. Also that crap about the british museum is just irrelevant. So next time instead of being a condescending know it all try just saying the history of the item and leave the assumptions and insults out of your comment, you might find people are alot nicer to you.

Something I read about recently was the looting of the Baghdad museum. During the 2003 invasion coalition troops bypassed the museum and it was left unguarded by either coalition or Iraqi forces for weeks. When the museum staff was able to return, almost everything was taken. The things on display had been looted and vandalized in the way you’d expect but what was really interesting was the archives. Someone or some group with insider knowledge had gone the archives taking priceless artifacts. Many of those artifacts have never been recovered. However some of those artifacts now reside in the personal collection of Hobbylobbys CEO. A second interesting and related story was ISIS’s sale of artifacts in order to fund their operations. ISIS put on a front for social media, posting videos declaring all ancient art and artifacts to be heresy and showing themselves destroying historical sites. Interestingly enough the destruction only seemed to occur to artifacts too big or identifiable to be resold internationally. After the fall of the caliphate most assumed all the missing artifacts to have been destroyed, however similarly to the Iraqi museum several of those artifacts now also reside in the private collection of the Hobbylobby CEO as well presumably many other rich f””ks personal collections.

Geto-Dacian helmet, not Sumerian
@iustinprisacaru2259 күн бұрын
It belonged to the dacians. It is a ceremonial helmet worn probably by the dacians kings.

Those artefacts belong to human history! A history that we yet have to uncover fully for which we need those ancient artefacts! My heart breaks when I think of them melting down that helmet. It belongs to us as a species. If this was about the gold they could have stolen from any random jewellery.

Not only it is a tragidy for The Dutch. But for Romania it is a dissaster, it is not the first time when we lost our national treasure we lost it agains in 1918 and this feels like a curse.

This is upsetting but … could it be someone doing this with the artistic ways of stealing then create a gallery of the stolen artwork. It would explain why they are doing it near the end of the gallery as it allows people to appreciate the art before their art.
