Shane makes a good point about the wig being a disctraction. My mom used to work at a bank and they warned against robbers wearing specific things to distract from their face. Like there was a case with a guy that wore a bandaid under his eye. Nobody could remember anything about his physical features, just that he was wearing a bandaid. :)
@FlyLeaf0104 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking! Forever ago I read that those who want to disguise themselves should wear something ridiculously ostentatious because in the end unless you have something very noticeable about your body (missing limb, unique tattoo/scar, etc.) everyone you encounter will automatically focus on the most pronounced things about you, even if they're fake. And it definitely seems proven in this case. We didn't hear anything about what the people actually looked like in the episode, it was all about things like the wigs and when the duo dressed as women. It's very cool to hear that they actually train at risk employees about that!

For the post mortem: there is a serbian woman (Olivera Ćirković) who wrote a book about her experience of being a part of pink panthers. She stole mostly in Greece, with a group of 'trusted individuals' from the balkans. She went to prison twice. Ecaped prison once while gaining trust from prison guard by painting a picture in the entrance hall. After making some phone calls while the guard wasn't listening - a friend of hers showed up on a scooter. She was smuggled back to Serbia and then caught again after robbing another place in Greece. Her stories are great. I don't think they have a big boss. She explained she worked with people with all kinds of special talent - such as lock picking, system deactivating etc. Her book explains in detail how they stole and how much they cared for one another when imprisoned. Anyway she is dedicated to her son back in Serbia now and Greece banned her from entering the country. I'm suprised you haven't mentioned her...
@exoticcats61194 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting
@raventhebeast_b4 жыл бұрын
As a Serbian, I'll be honest the "big boss" thing wouldn't make sense nor do I think it would really work in the group, we value family a lot so they most likely decide together on plans. Considering how there seems to be a lot of members I think they're in chunks, like in mini groups around the world, so there's even less of a reason to have a boss when you're scattered everywhere. Thank you for suggesting the book, I'm really interested in reading it now. Edit: she played basketball??

Post-Mortem: to be fair to Shane on the pompadour feature, a really identifying feature that’s easy to change like a funny wig will be really memorable, and so it’ll be what victims mention in interviews. when various crimes happen that have a lot of similarities, detectives tend to always connect them to eachother as a serial crime spree. they do this so that it makes other crimes easier to identify, the perpetrators easier to identify and it often helps predict future crimes. there is definitely a chance that some of these crimes were stand alone groups but because of the similarities they will always naturally be lumped together by any good detective

it seems that at least some of them were involved in multiple ones, but yeah if there are copycats or just weird coincidences then they could be associated with the group incorrectly. but that's not necessarily a bad thing, if someone gets arrested and thought to be part of the group when they actually aren't, it might just become a false lead, which seems like a potentially useful thing

For postmortem: I’d say it’s likely that this obscure group of skilled thieves just hangs around waiting for a store to say they’re needed so the store can collect insurance money. Jewelers make a deal for the panthers to keep a good portion of what’s stolen, the rest the jewelers sell underground themselves and keep a hefty insurance check. Plus the jewelers being involved means they could change the appearance of the jewelry after its stolen so it’s not recognized when it’s resold later by both the panthers and the jewelers themselves. Neither side would break contract because it would implicate the panthers AND the jewelers for theft/fraud, and unravel years of priceless reputation and scheming.

@defaultc00kies634 жыл бұрын
That's my personal opinion. These guys don't strike me as particularly bright and it would be virtually impossible for them to get away with so many spectacular robberies in the 2000s without insider help. If it was that simple people would rob these stores every week. The whole Graff Diamonds business is also pretty shady imo. Are they such massive fans of the brand that they need to steal from all their stores across the globe? Strange. Another major red flag is how sensational the narrative around them is. It's almost as if someone needs to make them look like a legitimate threat. Anyone familiar with crime knows that it's rarely bombastic or glamorous. That smacks of fabrication to me.
@noahjames28864 жыл бұрын
@@Brattybat I honestly don’t think the panthers robbed Kim k, it really wasn’t their MO. It was probably the panthers’ stigma, the obscurity and plunder, that led it to be labeled as such, not because it was actually the organizations doing.
