Thanks Bill, needed to hear this. The truth is Gods grace and mercy is here for me. I also have to repent I have to turn toward him and away from me.

Exactly what I needed to hear, thank-you. I like how clearly this is expressed in Matthew's gospel, from John the Baptist and from Jesus: "Repent, the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (3.1, 4.17). Repentance as absolutely fundamental, indispensable.

This was more than helpful. The necessity of this action is paramount. Yes, we’re are to come as we are, but the fruit of our faith is the changes we make and that is our testimony that shows the gospel up to the Day of Atonement and beyond into the millennial kingdom.

Hi, I’m with you man. But I’m confused on how the giving of the spirit works dwith this. How is the Holy Spirit a guarantee of someones salvation, but then if we go on sinning we wont be saved. And, how would someone ever know if they repented enough too? This makes it seem like someone should never be able to know if they will be saved.

As David said “Lord, do not take Your Spirit from me”. He had the Spirit and also knew he could be cast away

Sorry for the long delay. My reading of the NT is a bit different on the giving of the Spirit. I read the Spirit being given by God as a more dynamic event than a static one. That said, if you have received the gift of God's Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit's activity (Gal. 5:22-23) is active and growing in your life, then be assured brother, you are destined for eternal life. If you once had the Spirit's grace moving in your life in this way, but have since turned away from listening to the Spirit turn you to a life of humility and of following Jesus, then I don't think Jesus or the apostles intended to give you any assurance of your place with God. That said, the metaphor of 'fruit' related to the activity of the Spirit in your life is helpful. Fruit implies growth. It implies a process, not a static moment when one achieves perfection. Being constantly led by the Spirit to a life that is conformed to the life of Jesus is a process. Being attentive and responsive to His voice is the key, not being suddenly perfect after a particular experience. Shalom.
