Do Not use duct tape outside...use zip ties! Also, use proper sized insulation so it will easily wrap around and close shut. Face seam down towards ground. Next, use neoprene rubber on HVAC Next, for that 90 elbow... Cut a V out of foam to allow foam tube to bend. Also, they make special glue for foam. This person will be doing this again next year when the duct tape falls off and the foam splits and rots from sunlight. Finally, do not compress insulation of any kind whenever possible. You could end up doing that with zip ties.

Thanks for the pro tips! Yes, face seam down so that rain doesn't have such a direct path to get into the insulation, among other reasons. Kudos to this guy for posting the video to generate the conversation. Sometimes showing "the wrong way" helps with the learning to know how to do it "the right way", and WHY things should be done a certain way. All that said, his way probably works passably if you don't mind doing this job again every year.

I went to Lowes and then to Home Depot and there was no "rubber" insulation available. Therefore, I had to use foam. The foam says it's designed for this purpose.

Just replace my rotted rubber insulation w/foam. 1) Seams turned down to avoid rain getting between the crease. 2) The foam is not UV protected so it should be covered w/ the shiny heat/UV resistant tape. 3) Zip ties instead of compressing with the tape to hold secure in place. Duct tape will break down & need to be replaced here. 4) Should not press down hard on the foam as it will kill the insulation factor.

Honest question….Can a/c be running while replacing insulation? I don’t want to be electrocuted.

Yes. can be running. there's not any contacts between pipe and electricity.

Are they basically all the same size on this .. mine is like 8 feet long i measured..
