In this video I am at home and I show you how I replace the carburetor on my Stihl MS210 Chain Saw using a very cheap kit I bought off the internet.
Here is the link to the parts I used: www.amazon.com/Carburetor-Filt...

I am that Stihl trained guy, but also do lots of small engine repairs, Stihl is German engineered, if it looks like goes there with a click than it does. First where were your chaps? Never i mean never run a chainsaw without them. Now start up, let the engine and piston warm up before revving up,causes cold piston scoring . I use Tru-fuel cost a little more but if you leave it in there over time, it will still start up to a year or more. Had to chime in, you are are great mechanic to learn from on vehicles,i like your method for finding the problem and fixing it, just had to rattle yor cage on small engines. Keep up the great work.

Damn, you and I are like brothers from different mothers !!! We think alike, work alike, have same taste in foods, love animals, live in the woods, hunt, fireplace ??, side carry on the right, but I draw the line on a dirt floor in the work shop, country or not !!!! Get that cement truck up that driveway and backed up to the garage door, start pouring that floor. THEN SEAL IT !!!! SO NO OIL STAINS. Never put my creeper wheels in the dirt. Good carb replacement job !!!!! Well done, Eric !!!!! Mrs. O. is proud of you !!!!!

Hi Again Eric Liked the video. George here from Canada, Run chains all my life ,Worked in the woods the first part of my life , that was my income ,when I first got married and had 4 kids 2 girls 2 boys, Leave home 4 Am. get home 5pm, Totally played out, I usually run Husky saws But I did buy an o44 Stihl. I still have it a good tough saw,/ And yes the carbs you buy are pre set you never have to adjust them ./ And yes taking a saw apart is not that hard Just put it back together in reverse order./ and yes the saw parts on Amazon are dirt cheap. The Stihl i own I let a friend use it , he said something happen to it, I brought it home , I pulled the cord, I said to myself ./ feels like he put raw gas in it , sure enough, The head and piston was toast. I checked with a chainsaw shop here for an oem head was 350.00, I can buy one from China,/ head, piston ,gaskets ,,seals for crank spark plug , breather for 47.00 dollars//// I must say it was different to see you working on a Chain saw. I have come home at night Tear my saw apart put a head and piston in and have the saw ready for work the next morning

I found watching Eric rebuilding this chain saw so exciting and motivating that I got some tools together, marched into the kitchen and attacked my sticky old Moen faucet. Got the cartridge out and pulled apart, cleaned it up a bit, and lubed it all with Sil-glyde, (didn't have any food grade silicone lube on hand), and put it all back together. Wow, smoother than new. Im so proud of myslelf. Next I'll probably pull the head on my 20+ year old 525i. That thing really needs work. Thanks Eric.

Just came across this old episode. When I purchased my Stihl a decade ago it said right in the manual that if you used anything other then Premium gas with zero ethanol, the warranty would be Void. Salesman said to always just run it dry before storing. Must say good advice. Wing Wang Stihl saw, has a nice ring. Lol

Done a few of them zama carbs. Them diaphragms get pretty hard after a lot of use and old fuel sitting inside them. I usually buy the rebuild kit. It comes with everything but the carb. I usually always replace the in tank filter also. Sometimes you’ll find kibbles and bits pieces of hose in the tank depending on how long it’s been sitting around with old gas in it.

So I borrowed a chainsaw from my buddy and the MS210 is what he gave me. He said it takes him about 20 min to get it started though. I threw in a BPMR7A NGK spark plug and it started on the 3rd pull. This is a pretty good chainsaw. Thanks for this vid I may give it the spray cleaner treatment before I return it.

You are like a brother from a different mother. I have the same tractor and the same chainsaw, and my Stihl is also not running because the carb is long plugged up. I have been using my Mac one instead, because I worried about the WingWang carbs on Amazon. I bought one for my leaf blower, and it doesn’t work right when hot - can’t get to full power. I suspect it just is made too small and can’t pull enough fuel fast enough. But, based on your experience, I’ll take another shot at one for the Stihl. Thanks for all you do!!

Eric I have learned that any spark plug other than NGK or Bosh spark plug will leave you with an engine not working properly. A Stihl chain saw does not like a champion spark plug very long period of time. Thanks for your great videos and great tips. 👍🏻

Similar situation with an old Craftsman lawnmower which would dump out all the fuel from the tank to the body. I found a carburetor online for $15. It needs some tuning, as the throttle linkage is wobbly, but I don't have gas spilling out of the tank anymore. If I made my living using small engine tools, I'd go with a higher quality part. But for moderate/light homeowner use, it should pull its own weight.

@@SouthMainAuto That must be one of the old stihl's that had a problem with the fuel cap not venting properly and allowing the fuel tank to be pressurized too much. and guys in the trees would take the fuel cap of to refuel and would get sprayed with gas and if the engine was hot enough, some caught on fire.

Another great vid Eric. Did I hear a little, Trinity Giggle in the background? You may consider pulling the muffler and cleaning the carbon from the exhaust port. And those plugs are horrible. The last one I had burned completely in half. You can't beat a good Sthil. I have an old O29 I still use all the time.

Idk if sthil uses the thread in spark arrester on their chain saws. But its on the weedeaters. They carbon up and stops the engine from running. Clean up on the wire wheel, but I put a carb and a piston & rings in before I saw that thing ! Most likely its in the owners manual that no one reads, to clean every season lol

Ahh, now you're in my line of business! Fun, ain't it? :D It's all what you're used to - I hate working on cars in the same way, but I fumble through it. You did good there - don't sell yerself short! :) I would've left the hose and filter in the tank too - they're a bit of a pain to swap. If you think that was a pain in the ass, you should try a carb swap on a Husqvarna 350 - the first time I did one of those I was cursing up a storm, as if it were a GM product! :D Yeah keep the OEM Zama - those are great carbs. You probably could've just disassembled and cleaned it rather than replacing it, but now you have a spare. WHEN the hong chang carb fails (LOL), you can still clean the OEM one and use it. You'll figure it out - they're really very simple - just have to watch the float needle side - really TINY parts in there. Just hold a finger on it while you remove the screw, then slowly release, and take the tiny spring, fork, screw, and needle out. Putting it in is harder to explain, but you'll figure it out. I balance the little spring in it's place , then throw the little rod in the little fork, and slide the needle in the fork, and install it all in one shot. Easier said than done, but you'll get the hang of it since your mechanically inclined. This is what I do day in and day out, all due to ethanol in our crap gasoline. :) Yeah that thing was in pretty good state of tune right out of the box. Miracles never cease!

All my chain saws get a good port and polish of the intake and ex ports. And I always pop the heads off and put it on the table sander and I take and mill just about a thousandth off the deck of the head and throw it back on or I would take and switch the three piece head gasket off and put a thinner single copper head gasket on and run a E3 spark plug and I always run the highest octane possible. And the powerband is just outrageous. I always pop the screen out of the muffler for better flow. But the saws love a thinner head gasket and mild porting. If you wanna get into it more you can port your sleeve depending on the saw. And you can run a different filter. But I always do a mild port and polish, mill the head a thousandth or put thin head gasket and I always run 100 octane from the rebel gas station cause I live here in lasvegas and terrible herps and the rebel gas stations have 100 octane non ethanol fuel for 6 bucks a gallon. Or u can go to the North lasvegas gas station and get Leaded AV fuel. 100 Non Ethanol, 105LL, green Sunoco 112LL,115LL and Blue 120HL (LL= Low Lead, HL = High Lead) the saws love a 50-50 mix of 91 and the green Sunoco 112LL the saws love the Lead In the fuel. It adds lube to the upper cyl and seals the rings better. I always run my 2 stroke dirt bikes on leaded AV fuel they love the added lead as it lubes things and smells delicious

Eric, My Stihl leaf blower seems to have the same issue with the ethanol flavored gas. Over time the thing wouldn't idle and bogged unless you let it warm up for a looooong time. I replaced the carb once a couple of years ago with a Stihl part whiich worked great. Started acting up again and on a whim I bought a can of the premixed gas they sell at Home Depot for about $7. After running through about 1/2 a tank it runs great again just like it's supposed to. Just in case you want to try it sometime. Thanks again for all the great videos. -Eric

Hi Mr. O... Love your videos on SMA Channel. Any chance you could do a review on the Wang Dong carb after a couple of years, like you mentioned you might do?

As others, wondering if there’s a “Motorweek long term road test update” to the wing wang carb replacement? Thanks in advance for the tutorial. I have an 029. So far no issues but good info now seared in my noggin. I’ve had success with several $20ish wing wang chang-ers on two mini bikes and a yard man snowblower. Tecumseh snow king w/o issues. That was before switching to only ethanol free gas for all equipment. Like you said, for the cost of a few pizzas what do you have to lose? As always, great useful content. Thx 👍🏼

Awesome vid as always. I'm an SMA fan for life. Found this because I'm replacing the ignition coil on my 12 yr old MS210. So I have to ask - is it still running well?

Fuel line pulls out of fill hole and disconnect filter, then carb side out the top of tank and has a snap seal. Reach in with needlenose to get line out of tank.

I broke a plastic ear for the throttle linkage on my old man's generator one time and ordered an entire carb for $12. Bolted it on and fired it up. Haven't adjusted it since.

Hi Eric, I use, "Stabil" (Amazon sells it) in my ethanol tainted gasoline mixes. The other more convenient way is to buy, "Trufuel" premix, (Amazon sells it. But you can buy it cheaper at Home Depot) that has the 2 cycle oil (40:1 or 50:1 2 cycle-oil mix) in it and lasts a real long time. That might save you future carburetor re-build time.

As an aside... Trufuel is excellent. No ethanol and you can get it pre mixed at 40 or 50 to one. You can keep it in the tank for up to two years without damaging anything. Cheers.

airplane fuel 100 oct lo lead or race fuel. dont deteriorate for years. plus 2cycles can use all octane so you can lean out to better power and rpms galore! nothing like 12-13 thousand r's to excite the man in you!!

Sure looks good but the big advantage to Stihl is how well they start next season. With the tiny passages in a small engine carb they clog up very easily. One of the reasons I always run Stabil cause then I don't put it away thinking I might use it again and have it sit all off season. It seems to work as the only time I have troubles with the small engines is when I neglect to treat the fuel. Hope this one has been engineered exactly like Stihl as they have been quite good kinda like a Honda. Their prices on the other hand are very high. I bought a Poulan once for about a 100 bucks and when its carb fouled it was a totally sealed unit whose replacement cost was more than half the new price of the entire machine (leaf blower). I have heard good reviews on the Harbor Freight sonic cleaner with the right detergent it seems to clean carbs pretty well. I am on the verge of getting one and seeing. It might penetrate a sealed unit although most still require disassembly. Take care. Doug
